Hello All

I had a very rude awakening today when the rear end on my 09 Ram blew. 63K miles on the truck and when I was on the highway I heard a humming when I came off the gas. Then boom. The pinion slid back into the ring gear and created one big mess. Drive shaft fell out while in motion. What a nightmare. Now the dealer is giving me a hard time on the Life Time Warranty. Will keep you informed.

They will prob give you an issue seeing you have a 6.1 hemi listed in your info, if you put in a 6.1 instad of the stock 5.7 the 09 came with.

if you modify your truck, does that void the entire warranty?? or only the part that you modified?

Some dealers will let mods slide, others will not.

That was an opps on my side. Its a 1500-5.7 Hemi. The only mod is the bed cover. This is really a joke. The dealer started with well its your fault for not changing the fluids. Then I threw down the receipt for the fluid change. Then it was overdue for a fluid change so I threw down the inspection report from the same dealership three weeks prior saying it was fine. So then I asked how does fluid cause the pinion to slide into the ring gear and drop the drive shaft. There must be some magic dust in there that causes the nut to come loose. I cant wait to hear the answer to that one. I warned this lady dont mess with me when it comes to paperwork. I keep everything.

That sucks. Hope they get their **** straight and get it fixed for you. I have the lifetime warranty too and also keep all of my paperwork, just in case something happens.

To void your warranty or deny your warranty claim due to a lack of maintenance or mod, they have to prove that what you did or didn't do caused the malfunction or break down.
The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act:

Under a full warranty, in the case of a defect, malfunction, or failure to conform with the written warranty, the warrantor:
  • can remedy the consumer product within a reasonable time and without charge;
  • may not impose any limitation on the duration of any implied warranty on the product;
  • may not exclude or limit consequential damages for a breach of any written or implied warranty on the product, unless the exclusion or limitation conspicuously appears on the face of the warranty; and
  • if the product, or a component part, contains a defect or malfunction, must permit the consumer to elect either a refund or replacement without charge, after a reasonable number of repair attempts.
In addition, the warrantor may not impose any duty, other than notification, upon any consumer, as a condition of securing the repair of any consumer product that malfunctions, is defective, or does not conform to the written warranty. However, the warrantor may require consumers to return a defective item to its place of purchase for repair.

The federal minimum standards for full warranties are waived if the warrantor can show that the problem associated with a warranted consumer product was caused by damage while in the possession of the consumer, or by unreasonable use, including a failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance.

This is the loaded question legally it is supposed to be only that part but when they have the option to blame anything they usually will. Like the pinion seal ordeal I went through. Lucky for me Dodge has been awesome to me my dealer is the only one to fail me so far because of their negligence. I like the idea of a warranty but in some ways they are more hassle than benefit.

Now you will have to go in and hope they do the right thing or else they will stick it to you. If you had no warranty you could just go to mechanic of choice and avoid BS.

Hello all

Thank you for the support. The dealer called today and it will be covered under the Life Time Warranty. Now its just going to take 5 to 6 days to get finished. Make sure you guys keep all your paperwork. Receipts for oil changes, spark plugs, air filters and you name it...

Merry Christmas all.....
