Has anyone kept your monitor in your rear view mirror and used the factory rear view mirror with the mircphone.

I want to keep my rear view monitor in my mirror. So what I was thinking of doing is to buy a rear view mirror for the salvage yard and take it apart and use the microphone for VA. Can this be done

You would have to de-pin and separate the wires in the harness/plug, and find a way to connect them separately.
Why not just go with an aftermarket mic?
Some members on here have used aftermarket mics with success.

I did not know I could do that. I just don't know what would be the best way to go. I want to switch out head units but my monitor for my camera is in the rear view mirror. Would it be better to rerouted the camera to the new head unit RA3 or RA4 or after market mic.

If you are planning on doing the Ra3/RA4 conversion you can pickup a used oem mirror with the Mic's (plug and play) and then contact CuylerTech (RamForum member) or at his www.harness-connection.us site. He has/can make an adapter to reroute the 3 video wires from the factory mirror harness to the radio.

Right now I have ra1 I would like to do ra3 cause I really don't need navigation since my iPhone gets the free updates. It's just every car I have ever owned after a couple of years you need to buy a map up date for a couple of hundred dollars. I hate that crap

Very true. You could also add a Lockpik Air V2 to the RA3(or RA4) to mirror your iPhone via wifi.

About the only benefit to the RA4 besides Nav is HD Radio. Note, you can get a Canadian RA4/VP4-CA for a little more than the RA3 and less than a US RA4/VP4-NA. VP4-CA doesn't have a cellular radio to bypass, but also has the US Maps and HD radio.

what is the size of your rear view mirror ?you can add a 5 INCH or 7 inch LCD clip on mirror monitor ,which directly attract to your existing rear view mirror.my vehicle has a backup camera ,and I added a LCD mirror monitor to use as my parking aid.
my backup camera is from Vardsafe ,check it:
