Long story short I have a new-to-me 2013 MegaCab with a third brake light that just won’t seal. I’ve tried a new light; I’ve tried silicone; neither worked.

Last night I cleaned off the silicone and old gasket and installed a new gasket using MD marine/auto rubber weatherseal; seemed like a good, snug fit. Tested it out in the car wash this morning, still leaks.

Bought the truck used with incomplete history on it; I think a rear/side window was broken at one point because I found auto glass in the passenger seat pocket, and I see a bead of silicone along the rear window.

Do trucks come like this from the factory or did some silicone the **** out of the rear window for some reason? Would this cause any issues? I know there are supposed to be drain/seep holes in the cab, but unsure where. Please help!

I would drop the back half the headliner then have someone stand outside with a pitcher of water and slowly poor it over the back so you can find the leak.

Funny- I just finished "fixing" this for third and hopefully last time. Here's what I did this time:

1.Removed the "improved" gasket that I have put in twice.

2. Put a fat bead of silicone all the way around where the gasket sits. Top, bottom, and sides. Reinstall.

3. Used painters tape and masked all the way around the top and sides of both the roof and light cover so the only thing showing was the seam of the light.

4. Siliconed the **** out of it making sure to press it right into the seam.

5. Peeled away the tape and a clean finish.

We'll see how this holds up. This light is ******* me off.

I was sleeping when I sent this...

what I think happens is the light bulb heats up the seal and causes it to dry and leak. Have you tried using led bulbs to lessen the heat and cause the seal to last longer? just a thought

Use the double sided marine grade seal strip- someone should chime in, lots of guys use it. Works better than the silicone.

I had a leak and when searching lots of people said the satellite radio antenna was the culprit. Run a fillet of silicone around the antenna and see if that works.

For my leak though, new foam with a skim of silicone did the trick.

I used butyl in the roll like that used for the windshield and all stationary windows . The trick is to warm it up just prior to use. Works great and lasts.

This is what I used, got the info from a DIY thread, no leaks on mine yet.
