About time. I had to replace my part. The how to is on YouTube Motor City Mechanic’s channel. I’m gonna submit for a labor and part cost reimbursement.

Looks like we have to wait until September to get anything official from FCA.
Quote from CNET article on same topic, "Ram plans to notify customers and dealers about the recall on Sept. 14. Until then, the automaker advises customers to tie-down or otherwise secure any cargo."

If you haven't already found a temporary fix, this has 100% worked for me:
1. Remove the access panel from the tailgate. It is secured by a bunch of torx screws.
2. Unplug the wire harness running in to the actuator inside the tailgate (make sure you don't unplug your backup camera if applicable
3. Use the key inside your fob to lock/unlock the tailgate manually

I think you or someone else mentioned this elsewhere...I may do this as it seems like a logical and livable fix. Thanks, B!

"Some 2015-2017 MY Ram 1500 pickup trucks equipped with a power locking tailgate and a 5 foot 7 inch or 6 foot 4 inch truck bed may have a power lock actuator control assembly susceptible to failure."

"The vehicle population was determined based on field data to include all pickup trucks equipped with a power locking tailgate and a 5 foot 7 inch or 6 foot 4 inch truck bed from the beginning of 2015 MY production (October 8, 2014 at Warren Truck Assembly Plant (“WTAP”); July 31, 2014 at Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant (“STAP”)) through the end of 2017 MY production (December 15, 2017 at WTAP; July 31, 2017 at STAP)."

OK, so have they actually come up with a fix or will this be one of those "inspect and replace if necessary" campaigns (Which will fix nothing)?

The 2018s are unaffected, supposedly, so Im thinking the part they changed to for MY2018 actually is fixed and now will be installed on earlier builds.

If Im reading the diagrams correctly, the latest part number to use is 68093354AD

I've had my truck for 2.5 years, without a single issue, except an oil filter the loosened. Cruise works perfect and tailgate no issues. It's not only the best Ram I've owned (4th one) it's the best vehicle I've owned, car or truck, from any manufacturer, period. If only my Viper had this build quality.

Truck goes in for PA state inspection in November, so I'll have both recalls done then.

This sucketh

Hopefully this will prompt a change in how the locks work. You can set the locks to unlock only the driver door or all of the doors automatically when exiting the truck but when all is selected it unlocks the tailgate too which I dont want it to do.

So, I am a new member to Ram family so I am unsure if I should be impressed by Ram's willingness to recall issues and fix them or if I should be concerned.

I have owned my 2017 Ram (8th year of production for the 4th gen model) since February of this year and already have 2 recalls out for my truck and now potentially a 3rd.

In the combined previous 23years, neither my 2006 Ford F150 or my 1994 GMC Sierra were affected by a single recall.

Is this just that FCA takes more responsibility for their known issues or does the Ram really have that many problems compared to other manufacturers?

Are all of the other manufacturers having a similar number of recalls?

I love my truck, but this does cause me some slight concern.

You should ask early to mid 2000 honda owners. We got the shaft bc they had faulty torque converters.

This is ******** lol I have a 2011 that has a problem unlocking the tailgate. Every time I open it I have to extract the key out of the fob and manually unlock my tailgate

I dealt with that bs on 2 cars... 2000 accord and 2003 Acura tl

AFAIK it was a design issue that lead to too much heat in the fluid.

Oddly enough, when the trans in our tl died well out of warranty (time wise, but not mileage), Honda actually covered 95% of the cost to have the Acura dealer install a new trans. By then they had supposedly solved the issue but I went to a drain and refill of trans fluid at every oil change.

Got another 65k miles out of it, sold it and it's still going great today.

I didn't think 2011 had a power lock on the tailgate. My 2011 laramie is a manual lock.

Sweet. Looks like the 2018 2500 production run is not included/effected. Looks like they found the issue and fixed while in production.

My ‘17 hasn’t done it yet but glad they’re going to fix the potential issue.

Ditto. I went in yesterday to get U61 and U05. This one can wait.

Wait a sec...your Viper was handbuilt by the craftsmen of Conner Avenue! How could it be anything less than perfect? How, man, how?
