Registration Question

Hi guys

I couln't find a thread category that I though fit my question, so I am posting it here. I'm buying a new Ram Promaster City from a Dodge Ram dealer. I'm going to be buying the wagon model (Back windows and seats) because I want to be able to have it registered as a passenger vehicle. However the person at the dealership said that because it's in their commercial line they have to register it as commercial. I know that the wagon model qualifies for passenger plates and I have seen many on the road with them so my question is this: is this a Dodge Ram policy and I would then have to go to the DMV to get the plates changed or is the sales person confused? Also if there is a better thread to post this question, please let me know. Thanks

Not related but sort of is. I bought a used Ram 1500 4x4 when I lived in FL. Dealer processed the tags as a typical passenger vehicle. 2 weeks later I received a letter along with a bill from the state that tag was incorrect. Due to the manufactures weight of the truck being over 5,000lbs I had to register it as a commercial vehicle. Cost me an additional $60. Moved to Ga shortly there after an was able to register it as a passenger vehicle. Guess it all depends on the state your in as to how things are registered

Thank you! And yeah, it's a little confusing. In New York its under the mandated weight and axel size so It qualifies for passenger plates as long as it has the window and rear seat hook ups. Maybe because the requirements are different from state to state they have a blanket policy now to make things easier for their dealers, that's the only thing I can think of. I was really hoping to avoid a trip to the DMV lol
