Having issue with 2017 Ram 1500 5.7 liter. Had it since brand new and recently remote start won’t start truck when it’s cold outside.

Replaced battery, still same issue. After attempting to remote start, fuel primes, it turns over but sputters before firing up.

If I go in the truck right after trying remote start and push button start, fires up no problem.

One more thing to add, if it’s plugged in and I try to remote start, it will fire up.

Never had this issue before in the coldest of Canadian winters, something is wrong but not sure what.

Anyone know what this could be?

Is it still acting up? Have you tried it again recently?
Maybe coincidence but my 2018 last week did similar, auto start wouldn't work. And it had a message on the evic about autostart but I can't remember specifically what it said so I manually started it and was fine running.
Here's the weird part, my Father who also has a 2018 had the same issue yesterday morning. It was about 19°f.
Now both trucks are back to normal. The only thing i can think of is maybe they sent out another over -the-update that he and I (& maybe you) interrupted as I have had that happen before and it affected other things but was fine the next day.

Interesting. I wouldn't think that remote start would act any differently than starting the truck the normal way?

Go to your local Crappy Tire or Princess Auto and pick up one of these old school battery testers and test your battery.Just cause it's new, doesn't mean the battery is any good,i'd test it just to rule it out. If the battery tests good, next place i'd look is doing spark plugs and cleaning the coils, and replacing the air filter
The battery testers are even on sale this week

I have a 22 1500 Classic living in the North Canada and it was remote starting fine until the last few days , It will blink the lights once and not start . the dash says Remote Start Canceled. Start to Reset .
Otherwise it will start with key . Truck is plugged in as we have been -20c> last week

The only time i've ever seen that message is if it has timed out.

If you remote start and it stays idling, at the ten minute point, it will automatically shut down. Do that twice and it won't remote start again until you do a key-in start. And, you get that message.

That be fine if it actually started in the first place . I get one blink of the lights and nothing happens , ecept the statement on the dash

Yes, that is odd.

Have you scanned your truck for trouble codes? There are several remote start related dtc's that the BCM can set. To scan the BCM and RF hub you will need a higher end scanner or AlfaOBD. Most cheap code readers won't do it.

Also, if the check engine light is on, if you are low on fuel, or if you have any CAN bus codes (U0001-00 or U0002-00), the remote start won't work.

I have no scan tool to use on this year of truck as it will not conumicate with the one I have . And the dealer is two hours away from me . I have a hunch its the battery volts. When its really cold obviously the Batt has lower volts and It does struggle to start a bit . I will be taking it to the dealer in the spring for a tras service as its doing the high revs in first gear into second , and is taking a full 2 seconds to go from reverse to drive . Saw a post it might be low on fluid . and I want to do the filter change etc anyways . no engine light

Alot of dealers won't do a service job on the 8 speed, and if they do,odds are it'll be close to a 1,000 bucks maybe more in Canada,so don't be surprised at the cost.
There's lots of threads on doing it yourself,if you end up with sticker shock from the dealers quote

I’m wondering if we need to find a local BMW mechanic who is familiar with the transmission. It seems as if the only difference for us would be the ‘leveling’ part.

Go to your local Canadian Tire and buy one of these battery testers and test the battery yourself.
Tough to beat an old school battery tester, like these, they're a better option to have in your toolbox then the digital testers are

You need a new transmission pan to,as the filter is part of the pan.The dealer will probably want $40+ per litre of fluid, and you'll need roughly 5.5/6 litre's,and the transmission pan through the dealer will probably be $350.00+

Mine is doing the same thing this winter. I have no idea if warmer weather will correct it or not yet. BUT, remote start should be MADE for winter, yeah?

Anyway, I need to go into my AlfaOBD and check all the settings before I claim its a warranty issue.
Pi$$in me off it don't work when I need it most

I had this issue a couple months ago...after restarting the truck it came back a week or so later...but hasn't since.
I know if the fuel is below believe it's 1/4 tank remote start shuts itself off.

I took to the dealer for an issue with passive entry on passenger door handle and haven't had an issue with that since....maybe they did a software update.

I have to add that I do have Pedal Commander, it's set to OFF. BUT, I've had that installed for years and I know I've used my remote start probably dozens of times since then.

If you don't disconnect the battery while installing pedal controller module this will also turn it off and possibly the security system as well.

Disconnecting the battery for 30min should rectify that.
