I had the OEM remote start installed on my 17 2500 Laramie at the dealer and have a question. Is there a way to get the heater or a/c to come on during the start or am I just going to get the steering wheel and seat to come on?

From what I have read on other forums (didn't do a search here yet), if you have the Auto Climate Control in your truck, as long as you have that on, that's the temp the truck will get the cab to when you remote start it. It won't necessarily be on defrost mode though. I also read that if you put it on defrost mode specifically the last time you drove it before remote start, then it'll start up in that mode...

This is all forum knowledge, I haven't tried any of this as it hasn't been cold enough yet for me to need the windows defrosted the couple times I've tested out remote start since I got mine...

There are certain Temps that the truck needs to see something like 40 or below for anything heated and 80 and above for anything cooled/ac to come on. As stated above I believe that the auto control has to be on.

I have the OEM remote start on my '17. I leave the heat temp and fan speed up when I shut down so it's coming on with the next remote start. As previously stated, there is an ambient temperature range that governs whether the seats and wheel heat turn on.

I got used to setting it before I shut it down on my previous aftermarket units and still do it with my 19 factory one.Good to know the auto temp setting will fire the A/C automatically. The heated seats and wheel coming on automatically is awesome living in the Great White North.

Thank you all. I read the owners manual and of course says nothing about remote start and auto climate.
I will have to try that this evening to see how it works.
I will follow up with everyone.

Do you have auto climate? If so, just leave that on at the desired temperature, and with remote start it will heat or cool to that temp. Without auto climate, just leave the heat or ac settings (fan speed/temp/location etc) to what you want at next start up, prior to shutting the truck off. Either way, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it after trying it out tonight.

I added the Auto Climate control (single zone. If I remote start and it's cold enough the front defrost will turn on.

@jaxx67 if your truck doesn't have the Auto Climate control consider adding it. Get in touch with M² Mods for the wiring harnesses and contact AllMoparParts.com for the sensors and you use AlfaOBD to enable it.

Update, yes having the Auto pressed for the climate control fixed the problem. But now the rear defroster comes on. Have no idea

Mine will turn the rear defrost "heated mirrors" on when ambient temps are low. I don't know the exact temp but I'm going to venture and say 39F or lower.

On the 4th gen the heated mirrors and rear window defrost if equipped will turn on automatically of the outside temp is °40 or less. If you have the heated seats and wheel they will turn on automatically if the outside temp is °40 or less if you have the feature turned on. There should be a setting in the radio to turn the auto heated/vented seats and wheel off completely or have them turn on with remote start or all starts if it's °40 or less outside. If you have vented seats they will automatically turn on when it's °80 degrees or higher. Even if your truck doesn't have heated seats the mirror defrost will turn on automatically if it's °40 degrees or lower outside if you have a factory remote start. All of the trucks will automatically go to the previous setting on your climate control in both the ATC systems plus the MTC systems. If you have your ATC system set to (auto) it should defrost the front window automatically if needed but it's operation can sometimes be sporadic depending on the conditions. Another thing to note is in trucks that trucks that are equipped with ATC are on (auto) mode the fan speed will stay very low when it is cold outside until the engine reaches operating temperature and then it will gradually speed up as the truck warms up. This is a pic of the selection for (auto on comfort)702efa7b5a856dd5490504edea27b1d8.jpg

The fan will blow in heat mode, but you probably won't be seeing much heat until you actually start driving because it's going to take a solid 10 min or more for that engine to heat up while just idling if it is really cold outside.

If you know you're going to need the windshield defrosted in the morning, then you should turn the defroster on before you shut off the truck. When you remote start the truck next, the defroster (and fan) will be on immediately. I often forget to turn the defroster on before I shut off the truck and the next day when I remote start, the defroster is not on.

I have a '16 Ram 1500. I don't have the auto climate but if I remote start(via app or key) & it's chilly out, the defrost will turn on automatically. I leave the thermostat & fan set, based on weather forecast at quitting time ,when I turn off the truck.

I was thinking my 17 does the same thing but wasn't sure. I had a 13 ram prior to this but had an aftermarket remote start on it, and my 2011 had the factory remote start but I don't remember as much about that truck at this point. It's definitely a nice feature, my last truck I hated when I forgot to leave it on defrost full blast, and to remote start only to come out to a still frozen/snowy windshield. Nice to know I can just leave my auto climate settings where they usually are and let it do its thing.
