Hello, new to the forum. Just leased a 2021 Ram Sport and while negotiating the vehicle, the dealer agreed to have me bring the truck back in next week to have a remote start installed. Strangely enough, I just locked my vehicle (pressed the lock button on the key fob 3 times) and the vehicle started. Sure enough, every time I hit the lock button 3 times, the vehicle starts/shuts off. My key fob only has 3 buttons, LOCK, UNLOCK and PANIC (no traditional round remote start button). There is no remote start listed on the windows sticker, the dealer says there is no remote start in the vehicle and I can’t find anything about this online. I was told maybe this is a “Uconnect thing” and the vehicle will not continue to remote start after the Uconnect subscription runs out in a year. The dealer has already ordered a remote start for me and plans to install it next week. Quite confused, does anyone have any insight? Thanks.

strange indeed. when you say shuts off do mean right away or after 15 minutes like normal remote starts work? can you start it with the remote that way more than 2X without having to physically start it?

it it is starting then immediately shutting down it might have something to do do with the security system.

Thanks for the reply... it’s not immediately shutting down, it is operating like a traditional remote start. Push lock on the key fob 3 times and the vehicle starts. Push lock 3 times again, within 15 minutes, and the vehicle shuts off. It is operating the same as any remote start that I have ever used in the past.

That sounds like an aftermarket remote start has been added to the truck already. Check your UConnect account to see if remote start is listed, it may not be which further supports this being aftermarket.
The factory remote start has a separate button on the remote you push twice. With as popular a wanted feature remote start is the dealership may have had it installed and then use it as an "added perk" the salesperson will throw in to get you to buy.

I've installed aftermarket remote start systems and that's exactly how they work. You might want to find out what is going on before you possibly end up with two remote start systems on your truck. Never heard of Uconnect working that way either. Thought that was a cell phone remote start situation. Give Uconnect a call and they shoud have an answer on that.....

That's a strange on. When you say starts/shuts off. How long before it shuts off? Also, if the dealer tossed it in as part of the deal, I would just go have the one installed that was negotiated.

No remote start is listed on the build sheet.... I tend to agree that this appears to be an aftermarket remote start, however no one can confirm how/when/where it was installed into the vehicle. I suppose I’m more concerned if there is any validity to if the remote start will suddenly stop working in a year, although it doesn’t seem feasible. Strange situation, I suppose I will need to reach out to the dealership and UConnect. Thanks for the responses.

That is an add on oem remote start system. I had one added to my 2019 classic because it wasn't equipped with one from factory. It's dealer installed/programed. It has nothing to do with uconnect at all.
Uconnect can expire and it will still work. My uconnect is expired, no interest in that garbage. My remote start still works fine.
Press lock 3 times, it starts
It runs for 12 or 15 min (can't remember which)
Then shuts off
If you press lock 3 times while running on remote start, it will shut the truck off.

There’s definitely an aftermarket remote start installed on your truck. It has nothing to do with Uconnect, and will never stop working. You might even have the ability to set the aftermarket remote start up with it’s phone app. Look under the steering wheel around the OBD port and find the aftermarket unit, and post a pic of it. It’ll be zip ******* somewhere in that area. Many people are reporting this unit being installed, which is the Car Link for remote start, gps, and starting from phone app- GpWG7sI.jpgAa9XEKi.jpg

Possibly the truck was on another dealers lot and they put it on there. A couple of years back I was purchasing a new SUV. When I was test driving it and looking it over I found a sheet that listed dealer add on from another dealer. I remember it had etched glass, an alarm, and remote start added by the previous dealer. When I was signing the paper work for the SUV and they were trying to sell me all the extras (that were already installed from the previous dealer) I just politely said no because they were already installed by the previous dealer. So this is a possibility that another dealer had this truck.

Try press x2 time for remote start, press x1 more to shut down (cancel remote start). That how my work.

That is exactly how my factory remote start functions on my 2021 Ram 1500 Built to Serve model. i bought my truck new so no after market. The owner manual shows that you hit lock once and then again twice to activate or inactivate it.
