Hey Ramily,

I have the broken exhaust manifold bolts on the right side so I was wondering about a few things. I absolutely don’t want to do headers so that isn’t an option.

The double stud that the heat shield bolts to seems to be the one that breaks the most often. Has anyone just put a regular bolt in place of that and just did away with the heat shield?

I am planning on having mine resurfaced instead of buying a new one, from doing some research that seems to be the better route.

Would I be okay removing the heat shield, or should I just replace it, and hope that bolt doesn’t break again since the manifold has warped all it is going to warp?

Thanks

While you have them off you should at least port match them.

If you tow heavy often where the engine is well above operating temperatures, I’d recommend heat tape on some local non-metal components so they don’t become brittle/crack. Hoses/fender liner/etcetera but remember heat rises and at idle the mechanical fan and shrouds do not flow air around the heads.

Would be curious to know the under hood temperature with and without the heats shields installed.

The newest trucks come with braces that go along the top and bottom of the bolts. Must be FCAs newest idea on how to stop them from breaking. Could try buying the braces from a dealer.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I am going to resurface the manifold and keep the heat shield and hope for the best. I will also look into the braces or brackets, I have never heard of those.

Now to find the time to do it!

I had this problem with my 2012. Found out the problem has been around for about 10 years and Chrysler still doesn't have it nailed down. So the 2012 has been sold and the 2017 well let's just say I will not be buying out the lease contract.
