Hey, can you help? I have a 2013 RAM 1500, and my front gas tank strap falls out of the T side hole, because it's rusted out. The strap is intact, but I will replace due to rusty, but the hole on the frame is too rusty to hold it in.
Can you give Me an idea on what to do to fix this? My neighbor suggested j b weld, but I don't know...

Go see your dealer, there was a recall fix for the earlier trucks, that might apply to your truck.

Thank you! I will let you know what they say. I did a recall lookup, and it didn't show anything for it. Figures! 1C6RR7NT1DS635920

My neighbor suggested j b weld,

Rusted all to he'll, and your neighbor suggests.....JB weld......to hold your fuel tank up......do me a favor and high five your neighbor with a frying pan for me.

With a recall being issued, 100% take it to the dealer. Had there NOT been a recall, I would be using a welder and large bolts. JB weld...UUUGGHHH.

Here's more info on the recall. You should be covered being in Ohio. But.... the recall does say 2008-2012 tho. There is also a 12year extended warranty for other years. You should be covered.

Going to Buds in Celina, Ohio on Wednesday. He said the original recall might of got extended to 11 years or so, to include mine, with like 7 months to go. He said after they get it in, and check it out they will find out for sure. Omg, please! Thanks for all the advice! I will fill you all in after Wednesday...

My front strap broke and contacted the driveshaft. Left a deep gouge. Use 2 straps and check for damage. BTW, they don't cover "incidental" damage!

After you get the recall done to fix that, drill a hole in the bottom of that pocket and soak it with Fluid Film/Woolwax to help prevent the rust from going any further

I see you got it covered, Slow on the reply, but I am sure I got a recall for this on my 2014, not that I needed it. there is one for the wifes Honda CRV rear sway bar or sub frame as well for any Honda guys here. It was OK as well.

Use a ratchet strap underneath as an interim repair. Do not drive it with just 1 strap.
Temp strap is important. I know because I lost a tank due to rusted straps while going up a mountain. In my defense, I had no idea they were rusted but I should have. Not a nice ride. I called AAA and they called police who threatened to turn me over to the state environmental for a big fine for spilled gasoline - pump kept pumping until I got stopped and ignition off then broken lines spilled more. Tow company insisted on a new tank and new fuel pump as well. New tank because fire department (AAA called them too) filled old tank with water although the tank itself was totally intact. Fuel pump because tow company said so. Truck wasn't driveable so couldn't take it to another shop. That was in a '96 RAM in 2001 and I have been paranoid about things rusting and dropping out ever since.

I had same problem w/my 09 Ram 1500, and there's basically 2 options from talking w/others. Have a experienced welder, weld strap solid to frame, there's enough play on strap to connect back onto long bolt on opposing side of gas tank. Or like me I happened to have had a few extra HD tie-straps from where I worked that support 1,000lbs. Only needed 2 of them, there approximately 2-1/2' long, 5/8" wide, and 1/8" thick. Ran it around frame on top of tank and through side beam where it was rusted (top to bottom of it), pushed tank up w/my shoulder and pulled it tight. That's been three (3)years now and still perfect. Good Luck

This exact thing happened to me last night on my 2012. I had been hearing a rattle lately then yesterday when I got out of work I noticed a strap hanging. Put a ratchet strap on to temporarily hold. I will go to the dealership to see what is covered.

This is why I love this site. So much knowledge here.

I LOVE YOU GUYS. I was just posting about this and saw this thread. Purchased my 2015 in Nov 2014.

So, the bracket on the frame that holds up the gas tank rusted out and broke on my 2015. My gas tank was hanging down driving on the BQE in Queens. Not ideal situation. Got towed to a Mavis and they tied it up with ratchet straps so I could get back to NJ where I live. Am I in time for this recall?

Thanks,
Tonino
