I’ve been using 5w30 for more than 7 years with no issues of any kind. I use redline and am very satisfied with it.Changing viscosity won’t throw a code?
So I noted the Mopar 899.Yes, as @Ken226 posted, there are several "oversize" filters that are a perfect fit
for the threads and gasket on our 5.7L engines.
Fram makes 2 that have tested very well and are often mentioned here.
I am currently using a Purolator Boss PBL-24651 filter but I have several Royal
Purple 20-820 filters waiting in my garage and I'll be going back to that.
As for the difference, see pics. *Note* this pic is from a couple years ago and the Purolator filter shown is the stock/standard type filter, not the 24652 I posted about. The PBL-24651 is the same size as the rest of the "oversize" filters. Some of the latest reviews on Purolator Boss are a little mixed. The R.P. and better Fram filters seem to be testing consistently. Probably one of the greatest tie-breakers in deciding on a filter is availability. The Fram filters are often found at your local Walmart

A few guys run 7.5 quarts which puts it just a smidge over the full mark on the dipstick. Don't be scared to pull the dipstick once or twice a week,to stay on top of the oil levelHow much more oil do the larger filters require during an oil change?

What Fram filters will work or how do I determine this on my own. I’d love to learn these things so I can help people in the future like y’all are helping me now.
Perfect! Thank you so much for the insightA few guys run 7.5 quarts which puts it just a smidge over the full mark on the dipstick. Don't be scared to pull the dipstick once or twice a week,to stay on top of the oil level
Gotcha. I really appreciate the small lesson all this. Much needed and wanted.Found this post in our world famous Oil Filter Thread, by @JHoward ...
"The FRAM FE2 Endurance Synthetic oil filter is the same in size as the Mopar 899/Royal Purple 20-820/Amsoil AEO11/FRAM XG2."
I don't recall which of the Fram filter it is, but one of them can only be found at Walmart, but both Fram filters are reputable. Of the filters shown above only the Mopar is pleated paper, all others are spun glass.

Looks good.....BTW you would be very concerned if you saw the idle oil pressure on my CAT C13..... I freaked when I first saw it but apparently into the teens is normal for that application at idleReview the attached picture and see if I’m just overthinking the oil pressure being low. This is a new to me truck, and want to be sure it’s running the way it should since my 2006 obviously wasn’t this fancy.
Thank you!
can you elaborate ... i have 2010 with just over 166.000 was thinking about moving up to 5w-30Only the 09's and early 10's have that issue for some reason. Your 15 will love 5W-30
Try it and see what happens,it's only the odd early truck that might throw a codecan you elaborate ... i have 2010 with just over 166.000 was thinking about moving up to 5w-30
