This may be easy for a math wizard but alas I am not one so on to the question if I may. The other day I pulled the wheels off the truck to clean/polish/wax the inner parts, when I was done I put the wheels back on so that the Wrangler whitewalls were located top dead centre front to back and side to side. I drove 50 miles and now they are not even close to being the same ie front left is Wrangler top centre, back left is Goodyear top centre. The really strange part is the back right is not any of the other two positions mentioned, same for the right front. My truck is the 2014 Ram Sport rcsb Hemi 4x4 with 3:21's and an eight speed if that matters.


Am I completely daft as to why the tires did not stay all the same with Wrangler being top dead centre. Oh no spinning of the tires etc etc. I am **** and this is why I put the tires initially all in the same direction/fashion:favorites13::word::sleepy10:

When you turn, the outside wheel rotates more than the inner wheel both front and rear. Your differential handles this torque and rotation differences so you don't burn up your differentials :)

see that was easy lol. Now I can guess by this thinking that if I travelled in a straight line for 100 miles they would all be the same tehehe No more turns for this guy.

just doing the regular corrections as you drive will screw it up so really it's pretty much impossible

If all your tires were the exact same diameter then yes. Tire wear and inflation pressure would be important. Inflation pressure in the front would have to be slightly more than in the rear to compensate for the difference in weight on the tires. And, of course, you would have to find a perfectly straight 100 mile long piece of road that was perfectly flat (no crown) and no cross breeze. :)

Research how your differentials work. Check out the concept of a open dif, Limited slip dif and a locking dif. learn what your truck has. Probably LSD. This knowledge will also help understand your truck and you will drive it better. :)

I done has be an lsd and drive it like gramps, not sure how I might drive it better, thanks though ^^^^^^^^^^

You are not the first nor the last to think like this. I have had people tell me they always make the valve stems be near the ground so when they fill the air it will be easy. It gave me a laugh knowing that it won't matter since you will turn or spin your wheels etc.

Ah alas, good question, I will share a story of personal experience. So there I was out in the desert shooting in my 2006 F150. When I was done, I took the dirt road out to civilization. I saw the paved road ahead. I decided to kick up some dirt and spin my tires like a boss. Well, as I am spinning my tires and kicked up dirt, I began to merge onto the pavement that is running parrallel with the dirt road. Eventually, tires spinning of course, one tire was on pavement and one on dirt.

The sudden traction change put severe stress on my LSD. The curvy road back home was the last straw. My rear end crapped out and I had to get towed home. At the time, years ago, I did not understand how an LSD worked. If I did I would have driven my truck better and not had to fork over 1K.

^^^not good but I have driven all my vehicles pretty much like a gramppa from day one. I have never ever had anything done other than oil changes and two tire rotations along with two tune ups per year (back in the day), as you can see Gramps lol I have had my 10 Ram Hemi 4x4 off the beaten path but it was more or less following irrigation ditches for the purpose of shooting pictures, nothing more serious.

Both my rear tires are always in the same position no matter how much i turn....? Ohhhhh yea i broke my lsd and welded it... lol :superhack:

The factory lsd is weak, loose and sloppy... The minute someone comes out with a direct fit, I am swapping it out. :)
