Super stoked to posted this up. I have had the “Amp Research steps” on my truck for just under 5 years.

The steps work great. No complaints. My only complaint with the setup is the lighting. Out of the four small LED pods that illuminate the step as it comes out three have burned out. The forth light pod is fading and on its way out.

Any who, I had my eye on the VisionX rock light kit. They have four and six pod kits that come in a variety of basic colors and RGB. I chose the white 4 pod kit to replace my worn out (rather cheap) Amp research step lights:

Purchased from Authorized retailer “Alternative Off-road,” awesome company.
Very nice packaging:

Opened the box and pulled these out:

These pods and wiring feel rock solid. Appear extremely well made and of high quality.
My only issue is this:

There is no connector for my battery lol. All good, I have a few in my garage that I will crimp in place.

Stay tuned for post install and night shots! Gotta love VisionX. I am a huge fan, see next photo:

One thing I never got the bug for. Kinda happy when I see prices like this for lights heheh. I am good with high beams if needed. Grats on getting a new toy you have been wanting.

Ought to be nice. I installed Rigid A series to my frame as well as the AMP lights. They're wired into the cargo light so they'll come on with an unlock command from the fob or I can manually turn them on with the cargo light switch.

curious to see how you mount/wire these up

This is what I need to figure out. I am all good with the basic install using the supplied switch. But, I need to figure out how to wire them into the steps. To have them click on when I unlock the door would be another awesome feature.

I am still debating. Crawled under the truck last night after my first post. Was either thinking to the frame somewhere. Or, directly under the step. Kinda sucks to drill into the step but I think it would look great when the steps open and the light follows the step out. Kinda like this:

I thought about that as well, but could never work up a way to route the wires so they stayed out of the way through the entire step cycle as well as when the steps were stowed. I wouldn't worry about drilling into the step, its aluminum so you won't have to worry about rust though be aware that your screw will corrode faster (dissimilar metals)

I think this is the way I will go. Will have to swing by the hardware store and buy some longer screws to pass through the step. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. Charging my drill, will do the install this evening. :)

So, sorry for the delay in update. After struggling to find a good mounting point, I returned the lights.

The lights themselves are great. I have no complaints with their build appearance or output.

What sucks is the wiring. The wires coming off each pod initially look very long. They are not long enough for a full size truck. This kit would be absolutely fantastic for a UTV but anything larger. Nope. I think a 2 door Jeep would be find but you will need longer wires for the 4 door.

I was not interested in cutting/ splicing wires. If VisionX stumbles across this. Then, I challenge you to wire up a kit on a full size truck. You will find the wires coming off each pod are too short. Second, the wiring harness wire from switch to replay is too short. Third, that box or “hub” or whatever really needs to be half the size.

:) honest review. The “plug and play” aspect of this kit needs a second look. The lights themselves are great.

Don't know if you're looking to get a different set or not. Or if you only intend to use them for step lighting. But check out infinite offroad. Kits are a little more expensive, but lifetime warranty no questions asked. And the kits look pretty solid. I know you're kinda a light nerd :D(no offense intended).

I don’t know what it is. But I am total light nerd. Not even a fad. I have not slowed down since I bought my first light bar 4 years ago lmao. I am not familiar with that brand. There are literally hundreds of LED off road lighting brands out now. Crazy how many options are available. I soon as I post this, I will go to infinite off-road and check out there product line. Thanks :)

So a few months ago I noticed this post looking at your trouble and decided to give this a try. I went on Amazon and bought an 8 piece Mictuning RGB rocklight kit. Along with that Mictuning has 10ft extensions for their kit and a pack of 2 is $11 so not too bad. After 4 hours of installation I have rocklights mounted in the wheel wells and under my amp research powered step ups. Zinc self tapping screws work great for the step ups due to them not rusting. The wiring you can wire right on the step arms which will allow the lights to move with the step. This light kit comes with a control box and an easy download phone app which has a pretty decent range to it which fits nicely under the windshield wiper shroud giving it the perfect location for you to reach all lights with extensions. For the most part Mictuning’s kit is plug and play minus the wiring to your battery terminals.
