Buddy of mine is getting a six in lift on his '18 this weekend. He pointed out to me that his drive shaft is basically covered in light rust. He's worried you'll be able to see it once the lift is on. Is it normal for a truck this new to already have a drive shaft covered in rust?

Tell your friend to stop worrying so much about his DS. Surface rust in most driveshafts not made of aluminium or carbon will be normal, some are painted from the factory and will be ok for a big while, but most of them will develop that light surface rust, and believe it or not that surface rust is an actual barrier that is protecting the DS from actually rusting to it's core, if he's that ****, tell him to brush it and spray paint it, or maybe take it off and have it power coated for the ultimate cool looking thing.... kidding asides, nothing bad is going to happen.

It won’t be noticeable but yes you’ll see it a little if your really checking it out. I recently sanded mine down, applied rust reformer then painted a low gloss black. I also did the rear diff, front driveshaft and the CV shafts.

Take the time to search for a pic of JB1's truck. The undercarriage really looks great after he detailed it and installed all the Core parts. If he see's this post maybe held post another pic of it.

I suppose it beats a **************.. Or does it?
Ha-haaaaaa! That's one of those expressions that might catch the unaware. It seems like it's in the same category as sending someone to get a brass magnet.:D

I did this too. Took a little time and a few bucks at the auto parts store/Home Depot and came it great. Plus, I got to tinker a little more on my truck (some "me time") for cheap.
