I can’t believe my first house in SoCal was just $29,900 on 1/3 acre. Of course that was 5 decades ago and a funky 900square footer. Something like that today in middle TN would be $225,000. Shame that one needs to make $96,000 per year to survive here. I imagine a 100k truck is out of the question.

Still blows my mind what I paid for my first house vs what I sold it for, and what it sold for again 4 years ago. 1,000 sq ft brick ranch on 1/4 acre lot in Chesapeake VA we bought for $74K in 1998. Sold it in 2010 for $160K even though the neighborhood had gone to hell (house next door to ours burned out completely in 2004, still sitting burned out in 2010 because the owners spent the insurance payout and moved into a rental house ACROSS THE STREET), plus other houses in horrible states of repair.

New owners got foreclosed on, and it went through a couple flippers hands. Ultimately sold again a few years ago for $210K. I drove through the old neighborhood a couple weeks after it sold and the neighborhood still looked the same as when we left in 2010. Same burned out house (owners still living in the rental) plus a bunch of other houses that looked on the verge of falling down. I just don't get it.

Canada and the USA were both built by immigrants. Some good ones some bad its part of what makes them great. There has been a huge influx of migrants into both countries not all of them are bad people but some are. One criminal is one to many good hard working people a thousand is not enough
You can not compare someone coming into what is the Greatest country on earth today with what out forefathers did when they carved this country out of the frontier

And for the record, anyone ILLEGALLY entering ANY country is a criminal and should be shot on sight

Nothing gets good mileage around Baltimore. Way too many traffic lights and weirdly configured streets.
Not inside. Surrounding areas. Think 695 and out

At these levels? Basically nobody. You can't have the sort of income and credit needed to take a $100k loan while simultaneously having the average Nissan Altima customer mindset.

There are more millionaires than people assume, maybe 22-24 million in the US alone. Many millions more who are "hundred-thousands-aires". Then figure in business owners who are leasing them as a combination PR move/tax deduction/owner benefit. They sell maybe 15k of these trucks a year... I could do a cash purchase for either of those trucks tomorrow and not have to sell any stock to do it. But I wouldn't, it's an absurd amount of money for what they are.

If you wonder who's buying these trucks, go to somewhere with a lot of tech bro millionaires or huge ranches. Jackson, WY is an area where the billionaires are pushing out the millionaires, and I've never seen more high end pickups in one place in my life. Raptors, Power Wagons, etc there are like Civics in "normal" areas.
There are over 8 billion people on earth only 3000 of them are billionaires. I admit though, there are 350 million people in the USA and 800 billionaires. So there is a high concentration.

When I graduated engineering in 1974 I ordered a new, loaded Trans Am about 6 months later and it was about 40% of my annual salary at the time. I even bought a used 72 Nissan truck just to drive to work and beat around on county roads on weekends. I seldom paid more than $100/months for a rental and cable TV was about $7/month. It seemed that I had more money than I knew what to do with. I didn’t want a lot but what I did, I just bought it. I found a check book register from the late 70s a few years ago. It’s a shock to look through it and see how little housing, utilities, insurance, food, gas, etc were back then. Of course Jimmy Carter ended that very shortly thereafter.

I try to avoid it all like the plague. Even miles outside 695 I just find it tough. 70 gets all messed up until it opens to 3 lanes. 83 has all the PA drivers camping in the left lane. And 95 to NJ and points south is always crazy. Since moving from NY and then from VA, I have never really enjoyed the drive anywhere around the metro areas. Even at 5 am every weekday the Baltimore and DC areas suck. Just me being cranky.

My first house was 92500cad. My first brand new truck was 101000. I did a 50000cad reno/addtion. I sold it for 269000cad. I took 230000 of that and bought my second house that was way bigger for 360000. Now I have remortgage that house and bought an acreage. The kids are living in the second house and are paying the mortgage. None of this is easy with the government that we have. There has been a lot of talk about Canada becoming the 51st state i would be ok with it but it seems to me that the good ole USA has its share of problems too But you are in much better shape than us

lots of areas like that in Saskatoon and Regina, Canada.
drugs cost money, most of the real crappy houses that should or are burnt are low cost rental properties that the government pays the rent on.
then you also have the ones that can't afford free rent for some reason.
I will add that this small city have very little of that BS going on.

Key phrase, "If you had a trade" I think that is still true, but many of the younger generation do not - college debt instead!
This and the fact the dollar has lost 97% of its worth since 1913 when the federal reserve started. You used to be able to buy a $6000 car with a summer job and a $15,000 house with any job.

Show of hands for all of us whose first house cost less than that truck

View attachment 576192
My first house was brand new in 1971. $15,600. I've had some great vehicles but I've never paid more than $21,500.
The dollar just isn't worth crap these days. Gold was $35 when we got that house and it's 4300 now. That's the true devaluation of the dollar. That truck is only $780 if you pay for it in gold you acquired in 71.

I didn't pay more than that until my *current* house, and even then not by a lot. I got lucky and was in a position to buy during the '08 collapse, though.
We bought our current house in the country for $105k in 2020.
