Hey everyone!

I am new to the Ram world after being with Ford for 6 trucks (4 of which became extreme problems) bad luck I guess with cars. Anyway, I am loving my new truck, the way it drives, handles etc. The only problem is that I am 6`7, 240 pound guy. The headroom and leg room is... a little cramped. That being said I have been reading forums on seat adjustment and replacements. Can anyone point me in the direction of going about swapping out my seat to an electric seat, or any mods that I can do to help with more head/leg room?

I have the Ram 1500, base model Tradesman. It does not have power or heated seats. The truck is as base model as it comes. Please any help will be greatly appreciated. If i can buy a different seat, brackets or anything online please link them. I would like to get this handled as quickly as possible since I do a decent amount of driving.

Thank you, and thank you for accepting me onto the forum!

You'll first need to see if you have power for the power seat under the seat. On your year, I'm not sure what the power wire color would be, but likely a 12 gage red wire that isn't connected to anything.

They would only raise the front of the seat which has the effect of creating a little more leg room by raising your knees slightly. But it will also recline your seat a little more and depending on how you like to sit you may not like that.

that would 100% solve the leg room portion but I feel like it would make the looking at stop lights part almost worse. But Ill order these and figure that 2nd part out if it is much worse. Thank you!

would that not be to make the seat higher? I dont want it higher i want it lowered and back further
It only raises the front 1" the rear is unchanged.

The effect is the seat base is now slightly more inclined giving some support to the back of the legs, and shifting some of the load bearing to the base of the seat back.

The back of the seat base where you are actually "sitting" (draw a line down your spine) remains at the same height.

Go to their site. Read reviews online, you're not the first person to ask those questions including myself.

Ill got read some reviews, I found a fabricator and upholstery shop close to me and they said they might be able to help so I'm going to go by there and see if they can do anything at a somewhat decent cost. If not ill be going towards this option and hope for the best. between this and the track extender it might be my best bet.

Does it have seat recliners in it? If so, then my comment about being reclined more wouldn’t be correct. I’m surprised you are short of headroom. Good thing you didn’t get a Toyota. Even at only 6’2” I was considerably closer to the headliner than I expected in a full size PU.

The seat does recline, but I like to sit up pretty straight. I mean i have about an inch of room still, but when i get up and dont have a hat on my hair rubs the ceiling and it bugs me to no end.. I just ordered a new seat from a 2024 Ram same seat color etc. So once I install it im really hoping no codes pop up since its such a new seat.

I'm two inches shorter than you, OP, and I have the same problem. I also am more torso than most which means I have a tall sitting height. It bugs me when I feel my hair brushing the headliner or the button of a baseball cap gets pushed into my skull. Can't even think about wearing a cowboy hat in my truck. F the Europeans who think they can build a truck for Americans and our own government's CAFE standards. Didn't have this problem in Daddy's '71 Dodge Camper Special.

Part of that is because the headliner is lower over the front seatbacks to accommodate the crossmember in the roof of the crew cabs. Before I bought mine, I thought maybe a manual seat would be lower since it didn't have the motor under it. The manual seats I sat in were actually higher than the powered seats. Didn't make sense to me, but refer back to my Europeans statement.

The only feasible solution I found was to have a special driver's chair made by a company that modifies vehicles for handicap use. They could probably fab new mounting brackets with lower rise or a thinner seat cushion. I've just grown to accept my situation grumbling every now and then. I still get the urge to go Bubba Smith in Police Academy and rip the seat out and sit in the back. Over time, you will sit a little lower once you've worn that dunndm a$$ groove into the foam.
