I've been searching and can't find the answer. What is the difference between the security bypass interface that goes inline with the OBD port and the bypass module that takes the place of the actual security module? They seem to both work.

The 12+8 bypass harness physically bypasses the SGW module and provides an alternative connection, other than the OBD2 port. The OBD2 port is not used.

The KaodTech Security Bypass harness plugs into the CAN bus ports behind the OBD2 port.
This harness also connects to the OBD2 port, but provides another connection for the interface.
AFAIK, this harness is connected to the OBD2 port only for power & ground.

easier to buy a $150 scanner and pay $50 a year to unlock the security gateway for jeep/dodge.

I hear that it doesn't work on the 2025+ with "Atlantis High", but

If you get a 10$ obd2 port splitter from Amazon. Plug it in, and you can connect a scan tool and OBD Link MX to the splitter at the same time.

I can unlock the gateway module with my ThinkScan and AutoAuth acct, then while it's unlocked I can use AlfaOBD to access the BCM for the things Alfa does that a scan tool can't.

I understand that, but why is there 2 versions that seem to do the same thing?

If you use the inexpensive 12+8 harness, it must be removed after use and the SGW is often not very accessible.

For many 5th gen trucks, the 12+8 harness is suitable because the SGW is often located beside/behind the OBD2 port.

I'm lazy, and would still prefer to the install and forget feature of the KaodTech harness.

Other trucks have the SGW behind the EVIC or speedo console.

My 4th gen Warlock has the SGW buried behind the radio. That's far too much labor to R&R each time I want to tweak with AlfaOBD.

I installed the KaodTech harness and keep it coiled up behind the dash.

Much easier to pull it out when required, connect one connector to the OBD2 port and the other to a BT or USB interface.

Setup time is 30 seconds or less.

I have a 2025 at work I can try it and see.

This is a set it and forget it option

You have to unplug the SGW, but it does work.

This device appears to replace the SGW.

While that's a great device for post-warranty trucks, wouldn't a stealership get testy if you used it on anything within warranty?

And for anyone having the SGW stashed behind the radio or speedo, more work than I'd want.

Would this work? I have the car version installed in the trunk of my 300,so i can leave the tazor plugged in all the time, and still use the factory OBD port.

Maybe for a 2025+, as Ken described.

The device that Bigskyrg linked is to replace the SGW entirely. The OE SGW input and output cables must be bridged together inside this box.

Once the SGW is eliminated, the OBD2 port can be used as originally designed because nothing is getting encrypted.
The existing SGW is replaced with this new box, and it has become a paperweight for your coffee table.

Yeah, take it apart once. You void any warranty but, it works

I suppose that removing the encryption from the OBD2 port isn't too much of a security risk, but just to save less than $20?

That would not be an equitable compromise, in my books.

I've only seen and heard of the one test case where the vehicle functions were remotely compromised via offair through the Uconnect radio.

I would like more security features, if they might protect my truck.

I have a 2025 at work I can try it and see.

Ive heard that on the 25+ trucks, only certain scan tools can hold the gateway open, while others can't.

If you try it, let me know how it goes.

Which scan tool do have? We don't have any 25+ trucks at work yet, but if any show up I'll try it with a ThinkScan 689bt and a Innova 7111. Both are registered with AutoAuth acct.

Both can do it on our 22 Durango RT, but it's Powernet, not Atlantis High.
