I have had a two week battle finding a belt to fit this 2002 Ram 2500 5.9 Deisel extended cab with A/C. So has NAPA who has been helping me. Right now I have an 83-3/8 inch belt, the first one that wasn't way to long or way to short. We have searched books, catalogs, the internet, recommendations from friends. The one that did fit is still about an inch too long, thus where the belt goes over the tensioner, and then the lower pully, up to the alternator rub. They are moving in opposite direction which is a problem. I will post the route and a pic of the problem. 20250528_100817a.jpg20250528_101026a.jpg

Is the tensioner pulley broken ? That looks to close to itself . It seems like it should be a couple inch’s closre to the engine.

I think that's the problem he's talking about. The belt is too long so by the time the tensioner pulls it tight its doing what you see in the picture.

The tensioner works, so it doesn't appear to be broken. I have had several mechanics (mostly shade tree) look at it and they have scratched their heads at this. I have a shorter one coming, But I will have to wait to see if it will go on or if it is still a minute too long. As far as OEM belts, I would guess I would have to figure out the right size to do that, and that is one of my problems. Right now, I am waiting on one that Dayco makes.

I'm a bit puzzled by the last part of your comment. Has your engine been modified with an accessory of some kind that required a non standard serpentine belt? If that's the case then the trouble you're having makes sense. If not, you should be able to walk into a dealership and tell them model, year, engine and accessories, like with or without air conditioning, and they should be able to hand you the correct belt. Barring some unique mod a 2002 Cummins with AC should use a belt with part number 53040171AD.

Problem solved. The belt needed is
Gates K080825, Dayco 50808025, International 2513522C1 Serpentine Belt
That belt fits commercial trucks. I vehicle doesn't seem to be modified. But this belt is the only one that would fit. Thanks, all.
