Another damn critter yanked a wire out from under my 2014 Ram 5.7 4x4. The dash says service 4 WD, and there is a solo brown wire dangling from the center of the truck near the driveshaft. I can’t see where it came from, possibly a 8 wire harness but I can’t tell.
Any ideas?774ac7009d06af52e2ae1bbf0f5e9b0f.jpg

If you look. At the back Of the Connector where wires go into it the top has a hump the bottom is flat. The wire order is from Left to right across the top D C B A. Hole A is where the brown wire should live so. The top right hole should have ghag wire in it if that makes sense. Sometimes the connector has the letter stamped it some times it doesn't.

I cut both my brown wires out of the connector and used a single connector to put them together because of you need to change the shift motor you have to pull The wire out of the connector anyways.

So you are saying I could cut the other brown wires coming from the harness ans join the 2 destination wires to the only (now) brown wire coming out of the harness?

Yes you can cut the other brown wire out and connect it. There will only be one in the harness brown to brown I Beleive. Find the wire that doesn't have another wire coming out the other side of The connector and that's your match 100%

4WD Prodigy @Brandon-w
He wired his first 4WD system single handedly at age 3, by age 5 he earned his 4WD system master technician title while Other children his age was colouring inside the lines. By age 8 he moved his family to Northern Alberta where he taught his father the 4WD system of every make and model truck/SUV known to man.
At age 14 he turned his skidoo into an airplane, of course fully Loaded with 4WD. Today, he walks on water, of course, in 4WD!

Now I hear a ticking sound under the left dash near the parking break. It starts about 15 mph and increases with RPM. Could this be a relay or something related to the 4 WD message/ pulled wire?

Another note, the parking cable going along the left side underneath appears quite slack, like it’s dropped about an inch or so. Maybe related to the ticking. I can create a separate post for that with pictures later

Nothing 4x4 related on the driver's side of the vehicle really other than the wire harness. Is it your shift lockout clicking? I know if a brake petal switch is starting to go it can sometimes click and act weird. Had it happen on an old truck.

Ok so I got a better view of the harness with missing wire, the other brown wire has a white stripe on it. Are your saying I cut the brown/white wire and join in the solid brown wire?

I managed to clear the service 4WD message by stripping the end of brown wire and shoving it into the harness hole. Not permanent. I was thinking maybe super glue it in there?
Ideas?

Take the pin out of the connector and solder the wire to it, then reinsert pin into connector. Should take about 20 min. DONT USE GLUE, that is considered a hack job !!!!!

Hi,

Here is a schematic of the trans, transfer case, and shifter motor. Make's it easier.
https://ln.sync.com/dl/d006f6df0/fgp4vz68-amkdh9pi-pqx6rz8s-9pvb6a74

You can just click to download the three pdfs. The brown is the 5v feed.

Check the schematic, there should only be one brown wire, right where he said. In position
A of the connector. Doesn't show a brn/white in schematic. Somebody didn't "T" into that
did they? Just a thought.

These diagrams are great, however take a look at my harness. I do see a brown and white also, as well as most of the colors do not match up except solid brown.

The pin is missing from the harness where brown wire would go. Any ideas where I can get a new pin that fits this harness, or a pigtail. I am going check a junkyard but the whole harness looks like it goes way back to firewall. I am considering cutting brown wire from source harness, soldering on a bridge wire to the brown wire sticking out from shift motor.

You could check with your local dealer, they do sell a few harness repair kits, not sure if they'll have a repair kit for this one,but worth checking.I know they sell a repair kit for the throttle body harness,as i've bought one,lol

What I did was take the brown wire and the wire it matched up with ( dark green ans yellow) and made a bridge wire, connecting them. Tested out, 4 WD works, no error message. Soldered it and heat shrink and wire loomed. All good
