As the title says, took advantage of the AFE 21% for 21 years sale and got some shorties as I want the power without the major noise increase long tubes provide.

Figure while I'm at it, I should get one of those thermostat's that open at 160, yet not sure where to look or if ones for the 4th gen will work without a problem, hence here I am, asking you guys.

While I'm at it, anything else I should add as well

Thanks in advance

I've seen 180 Tstats. Do you have a tune? If not I would go there before shorties as you're not really going to see any difference with them.

Thought there was a 160 one, oh well

Figured I'd just have it installed first with some wraps, then sometime before the end of the year, do the tune as well, though I'd also wanna get the midpipes before then as well

You guys are right, no real benefit without a tune, but still some minimal gains at the very least

The shorty hp gain was pretty minimal. Long tubes easily double or triple hp but the long tube header prices are stupid. 1k and up for headers is crazy.

Jba aren't bad priced. Their mid pipe is **** from what I hear but if you have a decent shop they can do that themselves.

If you can do the work yourself I'd suggest it for shorties. Labor isnt cheap and your going to have a hell of an investment and no real noticeable gains. Even with a tune the 98% of the gain is from the tune. Your money and your choice but knowing your looking for performance I'd see if I could get your money back. Get a set of longtubes with cats and a decent muffler and your not going to be super loud. Infact I've seen a couple That were just slightly louder than stock.

True true, real goal is to get a dedicated toy/project, just saw the price and figured why not

Down the road I'll get long tubes, just figure I'd do something for now. Down the road, when the warranties done and I hopefully move South, then I'll do it, but for now, wanna do a full exhaust one way or another

Shorties are okay. A 160 t stat is a bit too low for daily. 170 is most drag applications. I put in a 180, deleted the AGS, and had it tuned. I ordered the t stat off amazon. I can get you the part number and company if you want.

Gonna see who does that near me then, this'll be fun

I’m in Phoenix. I got quote for $250 on long tube headers. They go inside as far as possible but they sand blast, check welds and complete job. They had great reviews. Figured it was a good price.

just my two sense as I did what you’re doing. I did a ton of mods minus a cam and supercharger on my truck. I put on shorties tuned it and was awesome. Had an issue so I bought long tubes since I had to take shorties off. I was blown away the difference. And there was a big difference. Long tubes made a world of difference for the better.[/QUOTE]

Dont look at the cost for motorcycle quality headers then...My nassert beet was $4000 when the 1st come out for my gen 3 zx10...3 yrs later i still ended up payin 1500 for them..
