Why do those two beat the ram in max payload and towing capacity? Is it the strength of the motors.. Better suspension? Or what? I read on a site the ram capacities are slightly less then the two

Correct me if I'm wrong but air bags...I'm thinking like air lift 1000's don't increase the payload at all just allow you to level the vehicle...right?

that's right - also provides a smoother ride - after I installed mine it eliminated the awful bounce back when towing my RV.

These trucks will sag long before reaching their rated weight limit. The air bags will help control that if its a problem for you.

Bags won't change rating just what you can tow without shining lights to the moon. You could look at heaver load springs too if you don't mind a firmer ride and will be hauling and towing a lot.

Those GM's may have a higher payload than us, but anything pre-2014 can't get out of its own way, so what does payload matter? My FIL has Sierra w/5.3, and a Sierra Denali w/6/0 and NEITHER of them could hold a candle to our Ram, or even my Sentra for that matter. I have picked up his trailer for him using his trucks. It seems dangerous. they're SO f'ing slow. This was pulling a 24' nothing special trailer.
I'd rather have to install airbags to get rid of squat.

Totally agree that is why the ratings annoy me as they are way too conservative. They can handle plenty with the bags just still screwed legally if they catch you or you have a crash and that should not be the case.

Watch this video for a good laugh now. This guy thought people cared but they don't they like the best riding 1500 and just add bags. You can now even buy them with bags :)

Well, he's certainly entitled to his opinion.
But for how many people use trucks, especially crew cabs, in place of minivans these days, does empty ride quality not count for something? The addition of $79 airbags fixes the squat. the only potential issue is loss of payload. Not trying to sound like the guys over on RV.net but if you're REALLY working your truck, a half ton isn't the platform of choice anyway.
I LOVE the choice of coil springs; the fact Dodge moved to them for the 2500 4 years after introducing them on the 1500 speaks volumes.

Ford trucks heavy duty trucks . :roflbow:

Yeah that's right. They are for work. My friend got a f-250 and with 7-8 leaf in the back. But even a 1" hole on road was like the end of the world in this truck. And the gas engine rushed to push the truck even without payload.

Anyway who want's a truck like that for everyday life. I always laught at fan boy even ram fan boy. EVERY truck have their own problem. My sierra had some problems, the f-150 and f-250 friends trucks had problems. And with what I see ram owner can get problems too. They are all piece of shi*t

If that was not the case they will last at least 20 years without major problem.

I hope one day everyone will understand that we choose the truck we have because we love it, not because it's suposed to be the best.

My truck is better than yours nananana :winner_second_h4h:

Ram still owns towing they just have decided in the 1500 that is not only priority and they realize people get the 2500 or larger when they want 12,000 rating.

That video always cracks me up. Look at bridges for example. Some deflection is not only desirable, but required. My F150 was a block on wheels and rode accordingly. The actual amount of weight needed to yield one of these frames is astronomical compared to the GVWR listed. I am very certain after replacing the coils in my Ram that the dismal payload capacity is in fact related to the coils. Mine rides like a truck now and is stable under load. The F150 was a tank, but over rougher roads and washboard it was like being in a paint shaker. For the record- I had to add a leaf to the F150 to feel comfortable loading to max GVWR in it too

After a LOT of tweaking to my hitch setup, I wanted to add that adding airbags to the rear also keeps the truck's suspension at a known level/rake to keep the hitch geometry more consistent, which helps alleviate sway. It's not just to help one factor; it helps with many.
