slight knocking noise on start up, help me out

alll is solved now :)

I cant tell what it is, with the A/c and radio off, I can very faintly hear a knocking noise on start up, and even fainter on turning the ignition off.

When the motor turns on, it almost seems like a vibration is set off and shakes something and something is having a wobbling clunk sound.

Its soo faint. I changed my oil today, and the noise has decreased. Again, I can't tell exactly what it is. Every single fluid has been changed, except the tranny so far.

I hope this is just a small thing... :(

This could be a motor mount, They tend too twist out of whack because of the torque associated with start up/shut down. It may also be something in/near the motor itself. ac lines tend to hit a wobbling motor. Ya gotta realize that at those times, start up/shut down, Thats when the motor will lurch the most. It may be a connecting rod, but that would have more symptoms then what you described here. Good luck Sully, I would inspect for loose anything near the motor, then have a friend start up you truck and see if it /anything moves. Another thing you can do Is put it in gear and put some stress on those motor mounts, You'll know in a hurry if one is broken. Do it in reverse as well. btw.

If you suspect an engine accessory as the cause, remove the belt and start the engine.

You're kidding, right? Are you referring to engine timing? Ram's use chains and not belts.

I'm referring to the r22 toyota motors and other high compression engines that rely on rubber belts for there cam drives. I don't think I mentioned mopar, If I did It was clearly a typo, or misunderstanding.

Oh ok. I get what youre saying but I was referring to the accessory drive belt, not anything to do with timing. I'm not trying to be a ballbuster here, but the Toyota R series engines all used chain drives.

This sound has happened before, but its gone away after some recent maintenance and now has come back.

A month ago, I took a 1000 mile trip. When I got there I had this issue. when I drove it sounded like something was knocking in the front right of the truck.

I hope this is just an engine mount...

Im trying to learn everything I can, I cant stand shops after last year.

They overcharge, don't do things correctly, and fu*k stuff up. Ive had bad experiences.

Time to look for a better shop then. Ask around among friends and family and check with the local BBB.

Figured it out guys, its was the freaking cold air intake slapping around in its box. Placed a towel under it for now.

At least we were close, sorta. I thought it would be something knocking close to the motor. Not something attached, lol. Glad you figured it out.

Tyler see about some weather stripping to go around the collar of the housing to act as a gasket and hold it in place.

Funny that you say that, I just placed some on there last week when I did some maintenance. Guess the damn thing fell off haha
