i am new to the website but i have noticed a lot of people have 2wds. Atleast to me 4wd is the most important on the pickup to me, weather it is pulling out the lund or getting a sledbed out of something it shouldn't be in. if you have also noticed this let me know or feel free to counter.

It all depends on where you live and what you need the truck for. It was posted before 4x4 trucks are in 2wd 95% of the time.

My long winded personal opinion:

Let me start by saying that I would really love to have a 4wd truck. However i got 2wd and it ended up being WAY cheaper, a bit more fuel efficient, and there's less to break (not that it happens often, but still). I paid the same for a 2008 2wd with 23,000 miles that I would have had to pay for a 2002 4wd with 150,000 miles (granted, i got a really good deal). Just a much smarter choice for my daily driver (30 miles interstate each way to work).

I spend 90% of my time driving asphalt and very light off road. It snows maybe 5-10 days a year where it gets bad, and I have the LSD and with 600lbs of sand I had no problems even on the stock good-for-a-years. I have a set of chains for backup just in case but they havent been used. It all ends up being what you ACTUALLY use it for (not just what you think you will) and where you live.

With 2wd you end up learning to look ahead and plan more carefully (which some people that go straight to 4wd dont do, and should, and end up getting stuck anyway). I have done a bit of trail riding and mild off road too, and I havent had to pull her out yet, you just have to be smart about it.

That being said, my next truck will be a 4WD, but I dont expect that for another 7-10 years or so.

I have a 2wd because my truck is a commuter 99% of it's life and only hauls or tows on occasion. Also, I'm not taking at $35k+ truck bouncing around off road or through the mud.

I realllllly wanted a 4x4 but I talked myself out of it knowin that I'd never go off road and I'd only actually engage the 4x4 when it ices or snows the rare 1 or 2 wks here in TX. Plus, I didnt wanna be muddin in a nice truck and fk it up. haha, so I got my 2wd as my daily driver and if I ever get stuck in the median or somethin when it rains, I just call the bf with his 4x4 lol.

I had to do the 4wd thing for work and you never know what the Ohio weather is going to throw at you.

Last year the old Buick just couldn't keep up with the snow we were getting. At one point it sat for 4 days while I drove the company Toyota Matrix which with its AWD does really well in snow. Plus when I go on a service call it might be in the middle of no where, in a trash dump, or the middle of a field.

I have a 4x4 for hunting and snow here when it happens. Since then I have gotten into sand drag racing so 4x4 is a must unless you have paddle tires.

I have one...........I don't use it. :D I think 4WD on my 2010 was used 1x this past winter, and it wasn't even needed. Oh, wait.......I used it when I went "off road" last July - the GYs started slipping on the grass. LOL

I have a 4x4 and it really doesn't get used much, but I've been around 4x4s since before I could drive so I guess it's just in my blood. I have used it a few times on wet streets if I need a fast go off the line. Actually used it off road? Not yet, but I'm wanting to.

When I was in the market for a truck I knew right off the bat that I wanted to lift it. I don't see the point of lifting a 2wd unless you just want it for show. I wanted mine to look good yet still be useful.

It only takes a time or two that you end up needing 4x4 to get you out of a sticky situation before it makes you fall in love with it. It's just nice knowing it's there if you need it.

I agree for me its a lil weird to see all the 2wd's around here, but like others have said its where you live and what you use it for. I live in the hills of PA. 4wd is must if you have a truck when you get a foot or two of snow dumped on you at a time for what seems like 8 months out of the year, your going to need it to get around. I also use my truck as a "truck", we go down camp, hunt, fish, trail ride thru the middle of nowhere, and god knows what else, but if i lived down south or more in a city opting for a 2wd would make perfect sense. Just my 2 pennies.

I also have no real need for a 4wd. Sure I would use it a few times in the winter, but it's not required. Most of my truck's life is spent on the highway with a lot of towing/hauling in the summer.

I originally bought my truck to put a big lift on and huge mud tired and use it as a toy. But then I got to driving it and liked it too much to destroy in a hole somewhere. I still take it off road pretty often but nothing where I've needed a more aggressive tire or 4wd for that matter. But it's nice to have for the rare snow we get down here and for riding backroads with the misses

i have zero need for 4wd. i live in southern California. i use my truck for hauling/towing, and a DD. it ended up being cheaper than a 4wd, and has a higher towing capacity.

I only use 4X4 for the really tough winter storms..I haven't been stuck yet though so that's good. Plus, I just got new tires on last December and I'm glad I did because last winter was awful. I would say 99% of the time I'm in 2wd. But four is great when you need it of course.

pulling out the lund
^^speaking of that..

Getting ready to head out in about an hour! :D

thanks for all of the feedback, and nice boat steve i pull a 16 food lund with a 25 hp johnson on the back. i live up in minnesota where in the winter it snows an awful lot and 4x4 is nice to have. ( i've had to pull a 2008 gmc 2wd out of his driveway) the same guy that asked why i spent and extra 2000 on the pickup for 4wd.

4x4 here.. I would not survive with the work I do if I had a 2wd. I use it about 65 to 75% of the day 7 days a week. (i go through a lot of gas) but most of my driving is on pipeline ROW's or driving to well pads. Is it 4wd is the first question I ask the dealer.
