I plan usingmy truck for camping .I don't like stock spare carrier if your stuck with a rear flat your screwed. I have looked for a spare carrier online the closest I could find to wanted is called a hitch gate it installs into your receiver.but if you look at our bumper they are rather flimsy . but they also bolt to the frame with a bracket and plate.my plan is to reinforce the bracket and use to pieces of 1/2inch x4 so the stand will clear the body and come through the bumper right below the tail light .the mount for the plates has to be stepped out because they are not on the same plain

as you can at the end of the bumper there is slight curve I plan cutting it there to make stand post come through the bumper. they rely on the trail hitch to give the rear of the truck strength

yeah but I have to retain my tail gate me and the missus sleep in the camper/canopy. I plan to build a canopy lift .and I will need the tail gate to close the bottom

made some brackets/mounts today they will be hidden behind the bumper.

I`ve had a real good experience with mine after 2 mtn winters, 1 member has powder coat issues but his is the only one I know of!

My solution to camping a few years back! Jayco Baja 10G! The Polaris 500 was a snug fit!

I like that set up but I want the truck to be stand alone camper life intrupedthe bumper build but I have made progress on my rock sliders/belly skids will post on my rock slider thread one more skid plate to build .the truck will have a belly as flat as mine.i

so finally got to work some more on my tire carrier I have run into some issues the 3 inch x 1/2 inch bar flexes to much so I will have to make it stiffer. I think it is strong snuff to support the weight but it flexes in a twisting manner not good. who knew spare tires weigh so much. so I will add some angle iron to stiffen it, if you wonder why I used the material I did its because its what I had I had to buy the tube to make the hinge 166 cad.the stock bumper had 4 welded nuts I had to remove them .I made plates to join the frame mounts together and my spacers go on top of them.the stock bumper plates go on the spacers4. 4 inch grade 8 bolts hold iy

so far my cost is about 200$cad. I have a welder and plasma cutter chop saw grinders and more time than money nobody makes anything that I could find so I build it my self it might be rough but it will work and won't cost my left nut not that I use them much anymore lol

On my old 1956 Chevy Pickup, i installed a tire carrier that sure wish i still had

It mounted to holes in the frame under the bed
The spare was almost in the same place as the stock mount held it.
You could release the latch near the rear bumper & lower the tire carrier down & extend it out very easily, the tire itself would be out from under the truck for easy access.
Sliding it back under the truck was just as easy.

I see someone has made something similar for RV spare tires

so a little more work on the carrier I talked to a buddy about the flex issues he told me where and how to gusset to get rid of the flexion wouldn't think 1/2 inch x3 inch steel would flex that much should bit the bullet and bought square tube. oh well I have angle to fix it

if you think of doing I would use 2 inch x 3inch 1/4 wall tube it would be super strong and you could have it hidden kinda behind the stock bumper and make totally or partly removable
