I noticed my spare tire is no longer a normal full size tire. It’s a temporary/spare tire on a black 17” flower pedal rim. Not sure how that would help too much. Has anyone else noticed this and has anyone put a real tire on?

I bet that it’s the same diameter tire just on a steel wheel for cost savings.

17" emergency use spare. Ok if you have 17", some trucks are 20".

There’s a difference in rim size and tire size. I would still bet that if you looked up the tire size it is the same size dimensionally as the rest of your tires that are on 20” rims. The rim size is irrelevant. Can you check to see what both tire sizes are? FCA doesn’t often use compact spares on 4WD/AWD cars, especially on trucks and/or vehicles with tow packages.

If that was the case wouldn't they just use a 20" steel rim and tire? Just wondering.

17” steel wheels are wildly more common than a 20” steel wheel, they’re lighter, and cheaper to make. Many people own their vehicles their entire life and never need their spare, so if the manufacturer can save a few bucks per car and make the spare a steel wheel, you can bet your bottom dollar that’s what they’re going to do.

I’ll have to take a pic of it. It’s a 17”. But I have 20” chrome clads. Yes Dimensionally it’s probably the same as the 20”. I want to put a real tire on there.

Definitely grab a pic. It’s unlikely it’s a temporary use tire, it’s probably a normal use tire. I can’t recall ever seeing a temp use tire on a full size pickup.

That topic was discussed many times here.
Do a search...
And yes, a 275/60 20 tire fit under there, problem is, the catch of the winch won’t fit through the center opening of an alloy wheel.
Again, that exact problem was solved as well, do a search...

True to a point, my '01Ram SLT had a full size spare, 16", same tire as on truck. Never used it in 16 years. But things happen could need it tomorrow.

Yeah my 03 Ram had the same crappy 20” stock tire on a steel rim. And I used it once or twice. Hence the crappy stock Goodyears lol.

See the pic below, on the tire says temporary use only. Use just to get you to a place to get another tire the size you need.

Jstmahoney - let me know if you find a solution that works. That said I had to use the temporary spare when I cut a tire on a forest service road in Eastern Washington. It was a Sunday afternoon, and once I got back to a small town I discovered the cut was not repairable.

I drove home to Seattle (~ 90 miles on the interstate) and had no issues with the spare at all - rode well and tracked straight and true.

I would prefer a regular tire on the 20 inch rim - but as others pointed out the alloy rims wont fit on the spare tire carrier, and I could not find a 20 inch steel rim.

If I towed often and over longer distances I would buy and extra rim (and tire) and just toss it in the bed.
