So I've been tracking some hesitation and general crappyness for a while now with a decent amount of pulled timing using 93. At 118k I figured I might want to look into plugs. Initial research showed the copper/iridium stuff with the 2013s but I found the 100k service interval addendum with my manual. The truck has a build date of 3/13 but also says 100k, so iridium I suppose.

Got around to pulling plugs finally and... yay copper!

But I bought the truck at 95k miles and these really don't look like copper plugs with 118k on them so I'm wondering if someone replaced the original iridium's with copper?

I'm going to put the iridium's in and hope for the best.

Done with the driver's side. Found evidence of previous work including broken connectors on the coil packs. I'm going with someone didn't do research or cheaped out on a previous replacement.

Also found the old plugs were gapped around .037.

Did you check the part number?
Jay
Of the old plugs? Yeah normal copper NGKs.

I had a 13 and always used the cooper plugs but mine was an early build.

A lot of people end up replacing their iridiums at 65,000-80,000 because the iridiums just do not last as expected. Also having iridium initially and gone to copper I can say for me, with California style fuel, the copper runs better. I changed to copper before I hit 40k. YMMV

Check the PN of the coil packs too, they changed those in mid 2013 to handle the Irridium plugs. My coil packs on my 2013 with a build date of 12/12 has PN 56029129AB which is designed for copper plugs. The revised irridium plug compatible coil is I believe PN 68238603AA. Thats what comes up as the replacement part if I put in the PN of my coil anyway....

Well too late for that, it's all back together again. I briefly looked for that info but gave up pretty quick.

Just went for a test drive, feels much better.

You can learn a lot from spark plugs.

Check you plugs against this chart.
