Where did you pull the signal from? The doors are missing the high frequencies in most of these things...the dash carries those.

If you ran that set off just the door's speaker wires is it playing a full range signal?
Like...if your truck has the 3" dash speakers those play the high stuff....the doors in most of them are cut off above 300hz or so.
I haven't seen every model obviously but the ones I have seen are that way. If it is, adding a full range set won't matter if the signal is cut off before it hits the door.

I could definitely be off...just going off what I've seen to date.

I have only run into filtering on the premium amplified systems, like the Alpine setup.

I need something that has a little bass...not alot, but something that has some umph to it. I'm looking at polk audo. I'm just wondering if getting 6x9 is better than getting speakers that are 6 3\4' or 7' when it comes to bass.

i was gonna do 6x9 however after reading several threads about some fit issues i just didnt want the hassel. i asked crutchfield about the 6x9 and if it wasnt because they were too deep they stuck out to far and hit the door panels. you could always go with the kickers from the dealer i suppose.
