Used search and the only thread regarding a spectra CAI i found was from 2012 and didnt really get traction.

https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/spectre-cold-air-intake-kit-9934/_/R-BGCX-9934

Anyone have experience using the spectra kit? It has the intake sensor adapter and the housing connects directly to old air box so the OEM plumbing is still used from the bottom as well as an open top. Im having some exhaust work done tomorrow so i figured i should upgrade the otherside as well

Its $170 vs $300 minimum for others and my finance manager (wife) would appreciate that i atleast looked into it

In my experience (and I’m sure others may/will disagree) Spectra is the bottom of the line and cheap but it gets the job done. The quality isn’t as good as other brands basically and it may not be quite as well engineered.

I also just found it $20 cheaper on Amazon. I was talking about it at work and a co worker has a spectra on his 99 jeep TJ and has nothing bad to say about it.

Are you referring to this kit,if so your stock air intake is a better cold air intake. This is a very poor CAI ,as stated by 2013,it's at the bottom of the list as far as CAI's go,and your stock system is better. If you can't justify something like an S&B or Vararam CAI stick with the stock set-up.

IMO almst all CAI's are just a tube with a filter. Spectra has worked fine on many vehicles I've had. I do get a better filter once the one that comes with it gets dirty.

What Wild One said is 100% on point and holds true. I’ve had 2 different tuners tell me there really isn’t anything wrong with the stock intake until you start adding turbos or a supercharger.

The stock airbox is a very good cold air intake, the Spectra isn't a cold air intake it gets it's air from under the hood. If he wants he can upgrade to the Eco Diesal box and filter and be farther ahead then any other CAI except for maybe the Vararam, and if he's really ambitous he can even add a ram air tube from the grill to his stock box

Yea i realized once the hood is completely closed, the only intake its getting is through the OEM plumbing. I currently have a drop in k&n in it already and its probably doing a better job than the spectra will ever do.

Thanks guys

Do a search on here for the Eco Diesal air box upgrade,it's gaining some popularity these days

True but most people are only looking for the noise it makes. Without the silencers built in the tube. Makes them think it's better and looks cool. I'm a stock box guy now and just replace the filter every oil change. Learned with my diesels the K&N or what ever other high flow filter. Only lets more dirt through.
I do have a vararam for my sons 5.7and wish I could find a paper filter for it. That I could just change every 5000.
I would also like to find a tube without the silencer for my 6.4 . Just cause it sounds cool even though I'm really not makin no more power.

Omg I remember using the autoparts special spectra filters as a young kid building his own CAI from dryer hose.

Dont do it man. The stock air box, with a k&n filter is probably ly best.

Ir if you must. A vararam intake
