So my 1500 5.7 decided it wanted to punish me for letting it sit for a week. This started this morning. I go to start the truck and sometimes get that buzzing sound, I don't let go long I did in the video I just wanted to record it. I turn the truck back off and then turn the key and it will hesitate then start right up. Never did this in the months I had been driving it and then suddenly this morning when I start it for work it says nah have this sound. When the noise was over I could hear the bendix(?) popping back. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2ooQ3W16GI

I don't have a garage so I can't just pop the inspection cover off and I know I'll know for sure when I take it in but would this be a starter issue or a bald spot on the flywheel?

The starter is shot stop trying to start it you will screw the flywheel if you havent already replace the starter and cross your fingers.

Its only been started three times since this started happening, this was #3. It is now sitting till I can get the parts. Any recommendations on parts? I was only able to find the Mopar flex plate and starter. Are those good enough or is there better?

it sounds like your starter. I would just simply replace that, i got one from Advance Auto Parts and holds up well. Once you take your starter off you should be able to inspect your flywheel through the starter hole. or i think taking off the transmission housing around the rear oil pan, which is only 6 bolts. you can spin the flywheel with a flat thick screwdriver or spinning the crankshaft bolt with a ratchet. More than likely, the flywheel will be fine though.

DITTO, Starter. Even if say you snapped off a tooth on the flywheel, it would still catch. But that sound is the sound of the starter just spinning away and no contact. All IMHO. Those flywheels are actually pretty tuff. Would take a lot to do much damage.

CAVEAT: There is a very remote chance flywheel. Pulling plate and looking with replacement starter on hand be the way to go.

You do realize you have to remove the transmission to replace the flex plate,it's not exactly a 15 minute job.

The Bendex is shot (clutch on starter gear) a rebuilt starter should take care of it, It's not staying engaged when the starter motor is turning, I wouldn't think it has damaged the flywheel gear.

That's why I am having a shop do it. They allow me to supply my own parts which is why I was asking for recommendations.

I'll have them do just the starter. I was just looking for advice for if I might need a flex plate too and what kind to get. Also the next day after I posted this initial question the starter went out on my backup vehicle. So now both of my trucks need starters... Guess I should be careful for awhile as it seems all my good luck is used up.
