Like the title says. How much horsepower will the OEM radiator handle? What are the standard upgrades?
Thanks,

I'm going to give an official answer of A ****load.

I have a cam, 180 t stat, and a few other power adders. I tow my 25' boat all summer long, in hot weather, and I never go over 195.

That tells me that the stock radiator is plenty big enough to handle anythng our trannies can handle.

I would be more concerned about keeping the trans cool.

Gonna agree with frog there. Mine engine temp never goes above 185* with the 180 stat. Really with that and an efan your stock radiator should be good to go for a long time (and a lot of hp). If you are getting to high of heat from whatever mod you have in mind, you could swap to a cooler t-stat but you dont want it to run too cool either as that can cause issues with it running right.

With the 180T and eFan I ran 185 degree and then I installed the 2500HD trans cooler it now runs 188 degrees. I have had overheating issues with previous rides when they were modified and was trying to anticipate what needed to be done to cover all bases. I didn't know if the 2500 radiator was the upgrade or not.

Are those HD trans coolers hard to install? And how much do they run? Also... has anyone tested them to see if they are effective? ie: How much cooler does your transmission run?

The factory HD one bolts up and connects without issue. I bought mine from Mopar Parts
Search for 04 2500 "52029089ab" They are now priced at $187.

Trup for a compairison, my truck pre-cooler and converter was in the 170-185* in stop and go traffic. With it installed and the TC I dont see temps higher than 160* in the same conditions, lately with the cooler temps outside it doesnt go much higher than 140*
