Wasn’t sure exactly what forums to post this in so I just placed it here. Have a 2018 1500 express quad cab v6 engine. Recently purchased back in July if I remember right. Noticed that when in park and step on the brake to put into drive/reverse/etc there’s a mechanical noise as soon at I press down in the brake. The notice is coming from the center dash. Is this normal?

No that’s not normal! I’d take it in to be looked at.

I would think its probably the park/brake interlock that pretty much every vehicle should have? Its a mechanical interlock that wont let you take the vehicle out of park if the brake isnt pressed.

That’s what I’m guessing too. Don’t know if I should be concerned or if that little noise if normal. I’ve never noticed it before

That had a recall I think. But the 8 speed is all electronic operated I don’t think it would have a mechanical link under the dash.

My money is on its the release for the shifter knob. You press the brake, it releases and unlocks the knob and lets you turn it to put it in gear. Mine makes the same noise but yours sounds way louder.

I would say its normal based on my limited experience with two different 8 speed trucks. As I said though, yours does seem a bit louder than mine, but that could be attributed to video/mic quailty.

Its the same sound mine makes though. Its the shift knob release.

Mine does the same thing.... I don't notice it most of the time but if I sit in the truck and press the pedal I can heard it engage.

Completely normal, like others have stated it is the electronic release mechanism of the shift knob.

I would be concerned.....yes, it is a normal thing, but normally, it isn't loud enough to hear it.

Mine got very loud (like louder than a door unlocking), and I took it in, they claimed it was normal, so I asked if it is normal, why hasn't it done it for the last 2 yrs and 12,000 miles then ?

They checked it out, and the solenoid that unlocks the shifter had come loose and wasn't lining up right...ie, it could have jammed.

They fixed it, and no problems since with it.

Sounds normal to me. Mine does the same thing. It’s a mechanical device engaging/disengaging when the break is applied so that you can switch from park to whatever

As mentioned, the Sound is Normal.
When you put your foot, on the brake, the truck detects you are about to engage the engine.

On V-6 trucks the sound is slightly louder and longer, due to the truck realizing the engine to be engaged is a v-6, not a V-8 Hemi and the truck actually *sighs* slightly, in a resigned manner.

For V-8 trucks the sound is slightly more subdued, due to the truck realizing the engine about to be engaged is a V-8 Hemi.
While each truck does sigh, the V-8 Sigh is more of a self-satisfied sigh.
Like after an ******** Experience or a job well done. It's a quieter, more complete kind of sigh.

Again, it is normal. All part of the V-8/V-6 Owner experience.
