Stuck Hood

Hi Folks. I have a 1983 D 150 Pickup that I can get the hood open on. I'm not sure if the cable is broke? When I pull the cable from the latch inside the cab it sounds like you can hear it moving. Pulling the cable and pushing up and down on the hood does nothing. I also looked under the truck to see if I could access the latch somehow - can't see it. Help!

I had to remove the grille on my '86 when the cable broke. I formed a hook out of heavy gauge wire and reached in and manually pulled the latch over.

does it not have a manual release behind the grill? i don't have a cable hooked to mine but it does have the place for it.
