Hi folks, so I have a 2021 Ram 1500 V6 (3.6L) 31,000 miles

I’m having an issue when generally going uphill around 40-50 mph. Were the truck starts to jump/stutter going up hill and when I press down on the gas pedal it continues to jump/stutter. once I ease off it seems to go away for the most part. It seems to do it when it’s in “ECO” mode. It feels like tires slipping but my tires are only a year old. I feel like it’s not the tires spinning out. But

I don’t know much about cars but it’s annoying to press down on the gas and the truck stutters going uphill and lags behind. I feel like it’s a misfire cause I don’t lose power but ultimately don’t know. Is it a bad spark plug or do I have an issue with the transmission instead, fuel pump or catalytic converter. I’m curious if anyone else has this issue and what you did to fix it.

Any engine lights? Generally any sort of Misfire will throw an engine code and if it's sputtering that badly in most cases the light would be flashing at you telling you failure is imminent.

That’s what I thought I would get a check engine light but. I DO NOT have a checked engine light on.

If you are driving uphill it normally wouldn't be in ECO mode. You probably should have fuel pressure checked under load in addition to proper transmission operation since issue is during load.

Okay so does that mine there might be something wrong with the fuel system, like not enough fuel is getting up to the engine under load. I noticed it more when I was the 1/4 fuel tank mark left but it happened today when I just filled up too.

I also had to have the charcoal filter replaced, I don’t really know if that has anything to do with it.

Could be fuel System or possible torque converter. You definately need to get it scanned and watch some parameters.

As already mentioned I wouldn't expect it to be in ECO mode when going uphill, especially if you are giving it more throttle.

Why did the charcoal cansister need replaced? Did it have this stuttering issue prior to having that part replaced? When somebody mentions a fuel issue, they are not talking about the fuel level in the tank being low.

There are a lot of answers needed to help track down the issue. First step would have a scan tool capable of reading live data and looking at several parameters when the issue occurs. Fuel pressure is the first one. If fuel pressure drops when the issue occurs that is a good clue. I would also look at the torque converter status. Guess I'm assuming this is an automatic transmission? Was there even a manual available??? The reason I ask is that it almost sounds like what happens in a manual transmission vehicle if you don't downshift as needed.

I couldn’t pump gas into my car without the pump shutting off every 5 seconds that’s why the canister was replaced.

I do not have a tool to do that. I don’t know much about cars really this stuff is above my knowledge of cars. I don’t really know what a torque converter is. I know it’s a transmission I think.

It’s an automatic transmission. It has a gear limiter or gear shifter on the steering wheel with +\- on it.

A coworker told me that it may seem like the trick is trying to downshift with I go up hill but I don’t really understand that notion.

I’m sorry cars have never really been my thing. I know how to change oil, brakes and rotate tires that’s really about it.
