Type R is the better sub of the 2. i will say the Jl 10w3 in the stealth box handles all music very well. You should have got the sub you like first then match amp to that. it makes life easier. is what i have found to work for me.

thats a good deal. if you want duel ohm you would need to step up to the JL 10w6v3. great sounding sub. You said you are using the fox box? to be honest i would get rid of that box and if you want prefabbed go with a net audio box. much better build and quality. they run $425 for a duel box. i am only giving suggestions. the Type R is a nice sub. i personally like the sound of the JL:. i also wouldnt buy from that site as they are not an authorized dealer of Alpine. You could never call Alpine if you had an issue with the speaker.

The Alpines will not be as crisp for rock. They are a good sub to get loud but to me they have always sounded muddy. I would look at a Sundown SD10 and set gains properly you will have a very versitle sub and it will make the best of the power you will throw at it.
