Just had a Sony xav 701hd receiver installed in my 2012 rcsb. The installer quoted me a price on a single RF p2 12" sub in a ported box with a RF 500d amp. Don't know much about audio how will this sound. I was thinking two 10" or 12" kicker compr subs with a compatable amp.

You do not need near as much woofer to make a RC rock.
Are you a bass junkie? Or do you just want loud clear music?

Personally I had more than enough bass with my underpowered Kicker L7 Solobaric.
It really depends on what you're wanting to do.

Those RF P-series subs are surprisingly musical. I ran a P3D212 until I thought I blew it but it turned out it pulled itself free of all its mounting screws and was just leaning against the box LOL:emotions36:

Amps have noticeable quality differences, but take a very critical ear to HEAR differences, all else being equal. Subs are completely personal taste; listen to them installed in vehicles with music you're familiar to to judge if you like how they sound.

I am a fan of two subs over one. If I was to do one sub I would have it on the passanger side so you can use all the cabin air before it gets to your ears and gives it a fuller sound. I have two subs in my Reg Cab right now and don't think I will be going back to one any time soon. I like bass but I like clear loud music more so when i want it loud it'll play there and when I want subs to dig deep for getting my bass fix they do that also with a little adjustment to my HU. Oh one more thing sound deaden the crap out of your doors and back wall that will help a ton with getting more out of the door speakers.

Maybe look at one of these, simple plug-up, 450+ watts and a small sealed box you can easily remove, nor have to modify. These JAM in a FS truck, in a RC should be even louder!

I have a 2006 RCSB with a Kicker CompRT sealed enclosure with a Alpine 600RMS powering it. It is more than enough for a Regular Cab truck. I had a Kicker L7 in there before but couldn't move that passenger side seat all of the way back or recline the back. With this current sub it fits perfect and is exactly what I need. If you want some pics I can post some.

I had two kicker 12's and loved them. Those things used to slam in my truck. I had them both behind the driver seat. If you want it loud go with 2 12's. Although 2 10's can get loud too. It all depends on which subs and amp you use.

mocaby73... This is exactly what I have paired with a 600RMS amp. Perfect Setup. I bought it from Crutchfield and I wrote that 2nd review. Excellent people to do business with.

Those 450w enclosures are pretty sweet I got to demo one down in Texas at a small audio shop and did a damn good job for the size of it.

Sundown's are great subs. As well as DC Audio. Their 8"s slam.
A sealed box is more musical, but requires more watts to move the speaker.
A ported box will hit lower bass easier and does not require a lot of power to move the speaker. Every speaker has a specific volume of air space it likes to be in, build the box to that volume. Custom box is always the way to go. LMK if you have anymore questions

"a sealed box is more musical" & "a ported box will hit lower bass easier" is a huge generality. Your statement can be true, but can also be very un-true as well. Depends on the subwoofer, and box.
For instance, a ported box that's too small and tuned in the 50hz range will never do well in the lower frequencies....it will be loud as heck in the 45-55hz range, but will VERY quickly fall apart in the lower 20-45hz range. Ported boxes have a very small window of performance or output which is why tuning a ported box is so critical...i always tune a ported box in the 28-32hz range. A sealed box can be very musical if the right subwoofer is in the right sealed box. A Kicker Comp or any Rockford sub will never be "musical" in a sealed box....they are not made to be musical...they're made to get loud and that's it. If you think a Kicker can get musical, you've never heard a "SQ" specific sub.
OP, you have a lot of choices and it comes down to what your musical preferences are, how much you want to spend, and your space limitations for an enclosure....until we know that info, we're simply throwing ideas into the wind

I disagree, and have history of World Champion SQ trophies to disprove your comments.
Those are hard, cold facts since the late 80's....most before these smaller companies were ever started.

...And this goes to show how personal preference plays into car audio.
One may like 'A' for whichever reasons, another may prefer 'B'. The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same crap.
I don't care for anything sold in big box stores, you may love that. Each to their own. You have to buy/use what's right for you; price and product availability might be as important as anything, or not at all.

Amen, agree. It also depends on what, a Sony LCD TV in Best Buy is as good as a TV specialty stores, so it really depends on what your comparing.

Absolutely. I ended up buying our latest TV from Wal-Mart instead of the local electronics chain who have GREASY salespeople. I feel like Wal-Mart would give me less hassle about a return/exchange, and didn't bother me at all about extended warranty which I loathe. Same TV, right?

If the model numbers are the same, for sure. I bought mine at Best Buy, across the street from me..Sure Amazon had it cheaper...but repairs would need shipped. I like to buy hands on, and see what I am buying.
Some big chains have intoductory items, but as long as the model *** is at WM, and its the same models at a specialty store, why not. (being both local in comparision)
