Water **** can be a great addition as long as you tune for it and don’t run out. Inside parts may become outside parts if you run out of it and don’t know. Of course that all depends on how much your running and what mixture.

Awesome exchange here, glad the thread got going. For me to answer the earlier question I have no idea what My rear WHP is, probably not touching 400. Flywheel HP is probably in the upper 400's, will dyno it some day but after I do a mild supercharger.

Ok I'm different I would work with moe and get his cam / other mods recommendation on what kind of driving I do- I love the sound of a cammed hemi

Doesn’t sound as good as turbo or supercharger whine... guaranteed!

My thought was to do the supercharger until something internal breaks. Once that happens then swap to forged internals for sure. I just hate to swap a bunch of parts that are not technically bad yet. I would agree that ported tb is a must. You think fastman is better that moes?

Boost it man. The trans will hold up fine unless you get stupid with downshifts. I had the 6 speed with an Edelbrock E-Force and didn't have an issue.

So I’d like opinions on how to fix a misbehaving reman install.

I’ve got a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Laramie auto trans, 5.2. It has almost 300K miles so I decided to replace the tired engine that had crap compression with a remanufactured one with a different cam. I think it’s a 258 cam.

Let me list the stuff I’ve added. Added a throttle body riser, an Airaid filter/snorkel/breather, competition injectors, long tube headers into 3” pipes all the way back to a high flow magnaflow muffler.

What I have now is an engine that idles about 1200 and clatters like maracas when I put my foot in it. Fuel efficiency is still crap too. I took it to the dealership for fuel sync and computer check. I was told all was fine. They tweaked the fuel sync and suggested I get a “tuner” to fix the idle and stuff. So what do I do next? It’s a disappointing result from what it should have been after figuring it out on paper.

With no disrespect to Moes at all, that’s not what I’m about. His isn’t a true bore TB. Check out fastmans site and you’ll see his work and how he has specific true bore throttle bodies of different sizes depending on how much you’ve modded your truck

Also depends on the climate and like you said mixture. I know a few guys that don't tune for water/**** and only run it in the summer with a smaller nozzle and a lighter mixture as added insurance under boost. I've seen my N/A IAT as high as 105 in the summer at speed so it can get pretty damn hot down here.

as the current and only owner of a Maggie charged 6.4. I will say that the PD charger is the way to go. Yes you will have to keep the boost at 8psi or below. The pistons are the weak link. I also have been in talks with MMX about drop in pistons. But I had more in depth questions. Like is the pistons limit a thermal or pressure limit. So if I could not go to a smaller party pully what about a **** injection. Everybody knows what my truck put down to the wheels. Also you don't have to change injectors. Mine are at 42% duty at wide open @6k rpm. that's with 7 psi being shoved down its throat. Also with only 27* total timing at high rpm under boost. Yes my tune is safe. But also like a bunch of you guys. My truck is a toy and a tool.

Debating on throwing a supercharger on my 2010 ramrunner and calling it a day or getting a vararam intake, ported tb, performance cam shaft, ported heads, jba long tubes, and a caraven muffler. The truck is strictly a toy and is beaten on pretty hard. The engine does have 135k miles which makes me worry about the supercharger option right off the bat but any input would be greatly appreciated!
why ?? waste of time and money !!!

The factory pistons are a cast hypereutectic, so they have very little thermal expansion. Which makes them great for factory engines and emissions since tolerances can be very tight. This also makes them slightly brittle, a factory piston has very low tolerance for hard detonation. It will shatter.

Something like a 2618 or 4340 forged piston has more detonation tolerance. No piston will take detonation forever though. A forged piston will expand a lot more so tolerances will be looser and they can be noisy as well.

The factory pistons also have a very thin top ring land which makes them prone to ripping off the top of the piston if you run to much boost with factory ring gaps. The gap can close and then it’s bye bye piston.

If you have a good tune and stay within safe boost limits you should be ok. It’s when you start pushing it that you’ll start blowing stuff up, or if your tune isn’t on point.

What is a waste of time and money? I do not understand what you are asking me.
Ignore that crap. Some people just don't get it.

I want to see some boost!!!

TTT, I'd love to have my truck have some form of forced induction. I'm too cheap. I did a ProCharger in my 2013 V6 Mustang. Was it a waste of money? Yeah, maybe. But I sure do like it! How do put a price on a good time?

What rear end gears do you have? I put 4.10s in my trunk. I highly recommend 4.10s unless you have 3.92s.

Don’t laugh but I actually have 3.55’s as of right now. I am putting 4.56’s in shortly

I’m not cool enough to laugh at anyone.

4.56s? Excellent!! If you have the 5/6 speed, gears, gears, gears! That’s the foundation to build upon imho.

Back to the original question, me personally, I’d do a cam, CAI, and headers. I like to be ideas of keeping the truck honest and simple. Unless you’re going to race it at the he drag strip, having a huge amount of HP, in a 55 mph world, gets a little frustrating.
