Hey guys, I searched on this but couldn't seem to find a relevant topic.

I just bought a 2007 Ram with the base CD player. I am going to sell my 2008 Jeep Wrangler with navigation. I'd like to swap head units so that my Ram has the MyGIG navi unit and the Jeep leaves with the crap head unit.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it as easy as buying a new trim plate for each vehicle and swapping the heads, or are there extra parts that are necessary for the swap?

Thanks!

Welcome to RF. There is a chance that it might not be an easy swap. Before you buy stuff for this I would first check to see if the harnesses match.

From my understanding there is no way this will work. Even though both are canbus........they are totally different.

Sell the NAV unit, get a cheap replacement (or find a person to trade for the standard RES.......like ME?) - and get something else for the 07. :D

I've seen my Navi head unit in a Dodge Ram, but not sure which year the truck was... so I know that there has to be a way to make it work. I'm just hoping that someone has some concrete knowledge on how to make it work, or why it won't work before I start the attempt.

If nobody knows then I guess I'll just have to start disassembling them both and comparing parts. :)

It is the navigation unit that is in this photo:

Plug it into the ram and see if it works. But I'm with JJ and I seem to recall others trying this and it not working. I believe the ram radio is a different part number (i.e. different software inside).

Sweet. Found a low-speed RER nav unit for sale on the Charger forums for $450 shipped and bought a MyGig adapter on eBay used for $105. Sweet! I'll update when they arrive.

So everything went pretty smoothly. The low-speed bus RER MyGig came out of a 2010 Chrysler 300 and the used Lockpick Adapter arrived from eBay with no problems. I had to modify my bezel to handle the new shape, and I also wired in a uConnect microphone and a reverse camera. Here is the finished product.

I sold my Jeep nav unit for $800 and I am trying to sell my stock CD player for $125 on eBay, so I will actually come out ahead. I sold my Jeep for the same price I paid for it (had to add a $150 CD player to fill the nav hole) so I came out ahead there, too. Not too shabby!
