I’m new to synthetic oil. Went with Mobil 1 full synthetic extended life oil and an extended life filter. Filter packaging says 20,000 miles, oil says 15,000. I have no intention of going that long but what is the recommendation for oil change intervals with this set up? Thank in advance.

You could follow your olm. My owners manual says under no circumstances should the oci exceed 10000 miles.

My personal OCI is 5k, a lot depends on how you use the truck, towing, racing, sitting in traffic, mostly highway all will determine your oci. Mostly highway you could go 7-10k, racing/towing I would go with 5k.

If you do run an oil for 7-10k be sure it's a tier 1 oil. There is a suspicion that the long oil drain interval is leading to cam or lifter failures.

To be safe run your oil percentage to 0 then change. What you could do is go a few thousand miles past this and do a used oil analysis. It’s the only way to know for sure. You don’t want total base number lower than 2.0.

Even in Mobil's fine print for that product, they say to not exceed owners manual OCI recommendations while in warranty and I would heed that advice.

If you ran mine to 0% it would be 10,000 miles. Myself I would not run it that long unless you did a UOA around 8,000 miles to see how the oil is doing.

Depends on the condition of the engine and how it is driven. Read the oil filter thread in my sig, m1 is decent came in 4th in the test. It came in 4th because it is a mix spun microglass and cellulose, but the three filters that finished ahead of m1 where spun microglass. Mostly highway miles in a good running truck and a good filter, 10k miles is reasonable for the oil you are asking about. Royal Purple and Amsoil filters are basically clones finished 1-2, and fram ultra finished third, another great choice.

Hemi's have lubrication challenges where you might want to put a little more effort into your strategy. M1 cosctco deal is so cheap at like 4 bucks and change per qrt that it makes sense to change the oil twice a year 7500 miles tops, and in that case m1 filter would be a great choice. With hemi lifters and cam issues it is better to be on the safe side in my opinion. These are not toyo 4 bangers that run for 500k miles without a hickup. These tend to be finicky at times. Read syn thread and learn about moly oils as well. GL, Burla
