I appreciate that. The cost difference between the 0W40 PUP with the RP filter and Redline 5W30 was nearly a $50 difference. For cost sakes, I think the 0W-40 PUP would be the route to go until I could afford to pay that difference.
Here is a link for Nick from the preferred vendor section on the forum Sir , and a close up photo of the Full Synthetic Redline that is for our Hemi's .

If your chasing mechanical noise there is nothing better than Redline, I've been on this forum for years and the list goes on and on with many Hemi owners having great success with Redline. I just did my first oil change in my 6.4 and the PUP 0w40 was on the thin side for a 40 weight oil. The other very good oil is Amsoil, but that will not help you with engine noise or the Hemi tick. I had great success with Amsoil when I was racing but I did develop the worst Hemi tick ever.

Found exactly the same results. Amsoil an PUP are Tier 1 quality oils. But "tend" to be thin in 0-40 for some 6.4's at start up and at full operating temp. As said, tons of archive posts tell us that in some engines and some parts of the country these two oils perform well. But found that Redline gets good results in the warmer climates. Next week 2018 6.4 will get Redline 5-40.

In all the research on this forum, has anyone found an advantage of the 10w30 Redline over the 5w 30 Red Line??

Yeah I'm not really going for mechanical noise. I'm comfortable with how the truck sounds and performs. I'm mainly just doing a change to prevent any damage. I feel going with an oil with a higher moly might be better. If i'm not mistaking the oil I'm using now might only be in the 60-80s. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. I could be wrong on that number though. As mentioned above that the 0W40 weight will break down into a 5W30 weight might be a better route for me on the PUP for cost saving purposes right now. I live in Texas and daily it's about 95-102 degrees out. By the way I do have the 5.7 engine.

Definitely recommend against this, Redline uses their best base oil in the 5 winter rating for whatever reason. Stat sheet even proves it, I used 5w20, 5w30, and 10w30 redline and this current 10w30 redline is the only one where I can get a faint tick on. The stat sheet proves it as well, 2 more hths for 5w30 over 10w30, this is huge.

The same thing follows suit for the 40 weights, again for whatever reason. 5 winter rating redline's are the best imo as far as base oil. Now, they do seam to have a better additive package in 10w30, and maybe someone wants that, but if you are doing it for tick control use the 5w30 for the 5.7 or 5w40 for the 6.4 IMO. So even though there is slightly higher vii's rate, the base oil is so much better it covers any downside of vii shear.

There is a positive and a negative to redline 10W-30 versus red line 5W-30.

Redline 10W-30 technically has zero viscosity index improvers (the 5w30 has a little of them.... but just a little) so it is pure base stock oil with additives, think mono-viscosity oil that acts like a milti-viscosity. The negative is it has a slightly lower HTHS and CST vis @100 than their 5w30. That’s just how that base stock happens to be.

Bottom line is, pure Base stock oil with no viscosity index improvers is kick ass!!! Take that info for what it’s worth because there is one respected member on this forum that has actually had slightly louder engine noise with red line 10W-30 over 5W-30 . But there are other members that have felt 10W-30 has performed better.

I would try both and pick whatever tickles your fancy suits your temperature ranges in your area better. They are both excellent.

Either one will show zero or almost zero viscosity loss after a reasonable oil change interval.

I ran 5w30 RL and now have 4qts of 10w30 and 3qts of 5w30 and have not noticed any difference in the sound of the motor.
I did have really high oil temps pulling my trailer last time on this oil but did not check oil temps when I pulled the trailer of straight 5w30 RL .
My next change will be back to 5w30 sometime this winter.

So I want to start by saying thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I've read almost all 2722 pages and have learned a lot. It took some time and detication..lol I first changed my factory fill oil at 1700 miles to PYB 5-30 w/ fram ultra synthetic filter and then again at 4800 miles with 5-30 PYB same filter. Currently I am at 7400miles. I have no ticks or knocks but I do still think the motor is loud. Not as loud as the FF 5-20.

I also do have the fast start up tick only if I startthe truck and move it a short distance as some have said before but only have had to do that 4 or 5 times and I've always paid attention. That fast start up tick only lasts 1 second maybe.

I am due four an oil change and I got some redline 5-30. Looking for that silky smoothness and hopefullyeven quieter. I am happy with the PYB but wanted to see if I hear or feel a difference with redline. Thanks again everyone!!

That's a really nice 1rst post Sir !

Welcome to the RAMFORUM from Bristol, Tn .

PYB is a great oil and excellent choice going with the 5W-30 .

Just a generally loud 5.7L was my issue as well .
Redline 5W-30 is another excellent choice imo . No need to change your filter type ...I am partial to the RP filter small RP 10-48 & Larger one RP 20-820 .
Just remembered give the Redline about 1k ish to plate [emoji1303]
I'm sure you'll be happy with your new oil choice .
Good luck Sir !!

Thanks for the responses guys. I have run both 10w30 and 5w30 redline and was not able to discern a difference so I
figured I'd ask someone that's done more research to help me make up my mind, and you've done that. Since I live in
sunny hot Arizona I think I'll stick to the 10w30 unless some other bit of information pops up that tells 5w30 or some
other weight or oil would suit my circumstances better....(Probably overthinking it :insane:).

Just a note. Remember The 5w30 is slightly thicker. May or may not make a difference for you.
