If nicely asking doesn't work, be a monster, cause a scene over and over day after day. I wouldn't buy another one either, but that's on you.

@knightjp this is not directed at you, just a general consensus by me.
No offense taken. I feel that way sometimes too. But then again with over 2600 pages, you'd think we've answered the original the question of how best to lubricate our engines more than once.

However I think what keeps this thread going is the fact that we all can be accommodating, regardless of the topic and also the fact that oil companies keep updating and changing their formulas; which means the answer is always evolving too.

So in re-imagining what it means to be a corvette, now we include a weak 4 banger that looks like a rav 4? Why stop there, why not make the next EV moped also a Corvette? How about a Corvette lawn mower, oh yeah cant wait.
Bring this car back and hop it up like this, and we can all be happy ;)

Any subaru fans or non fans out there. I am trying to put a list in front of the wife for options. I like they have a non di option and well it is the price that is attractive, if we get a 350 it will be used, but we can afford a outback at under 30k.. Which would you opt for? If you had a budget anything under 30k for a wife going into retirement soon ish, how would you spend it assuming that you actually need to spend it as she is asking for it. I'd rather work with her then let her buy something w/o my input.
Subaru had issues with head gaskets on their older 2.5L engines. Their newer engines are better.

My chief gripe with them is use of CVTs and not traditional automatics. If you don't have the CVT fluid changed religiously every 30k miles it will grenade on you.

Consider a Rav-4. They're pretty simple and extremely reliable.

OK, guess I have to reveal my ignorance. What is a 350? Subaru seems to be the subject but I cannot find a Subaru with a 350 designation.
Reason I ask is I also prefer a non Turbo , non DI engine and am on the hunt for a new car for the Commodore.

sorry bro, lexus 350 rx, non di v6 with 6 or 8 speed transmission depending on year. They can be 80k new, but oddly you kind find killer deals with low miles. Maybe the best used vehicle out there with no glaring issues.

The info I have half coming from Corey, is as long as you change the Toyota cvt oil often you can get a long life from that transmission. As for WS fluid, both of us will probably go to something else out of warranty, perhaps d6 or amsoil thin option ss fuel efficient one. I had plugs with no gap from factory, didn't even know til I did first tune up, might wanna check. But they are friggin great cars man, no joke. What engine is in there?

Wanna talk about fair increases? We paid 23k in 2009, actually 23.8 in 2009 for our base model rav 4. Now they have that killer new body style and the base model goes for 28.800. 16 years later and the rav 4 base model has only increased by exactly 5 grand. just another amazing fact, I wish the wife would consider that, but women want what they want sometimes.

So the RAV 4 is port injection with CVT? Commodores present car is a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime and I must say that it has been flawless in absolutely every respect. It is her second Toyota after a string of Hondas. No complaints on the Hondas but i must say that the Toyotas have impressed me as well.
However, she wants something that sits higher off the ground and has fewer accoutrements. I drove her car the other day which I rarely do and asked her, " what is this switch for". Answer, "I don't know". Turned out to be heated seats! LOL She never uses cruise and lane assist is turn off.
Soooo, I am searching for her.
BTY, thanks for the Lexus 350 Info.

Toyota makes a fine product. Extremely reliable and they hold their value well. They won't turn any heads. They won't bring a smile when you hit the gas. They will get you from A to B with minimal fuss year after year after year. That is all many people look for in a car, and it's just fine.

If you are looking at used cars definitely check out Lexus. They're fancy Toyotas with the same level of dependability. You can often find older ones with low miles in excellent condition because many retirees buy them and don't drive any further than the grocery store or church on Sundays.

My neighbor has an ES (fancy Camry) in the garage. He bought it for his wife a decade ago, she rarely drove it, and since she passed it has just sat. He won't part with it, I've made a few offers over the years. When he passes I have a feeling his son will sell it. Somebody is going to get an absolute gem of a car with maybe 25000 miles on it and be able to drive it for another twenty years, or until the government finds a way to outlaw gasoline.

That is interesting, I need to look into that engine, from what I saw it is only a bit over a grand in cost for that option but is nearly 10mpg according to Toyota. Perhaps we should start grading which hybrid technologies makes sense compared to those who don't, thinking of the ram hybrid as the later. Unless I am mistaken the ram hybrid is a motor similar to the pentastar that is used to charge the battery, lol. For me all for not unless I can convince the ol lady to at least sit a new rav 4. Something that kind of bugs me is none of the local toyota stores have an y rav 4 with the two paint which I think is the freak'n bomb. From my detailing days do you know how hot paint gets compared to white roof? I painted my rav 4 roof with white bed liner, lol. I don't know why more cars do have white roofs regardless what color the body is. They have like 100 rav fours in 4 dealers, not one two tone with white roof.

Not trying to upset you Mike, but that is one ugly roof. Doesn't do anything for making the vehicle sellable from a dealers perspective, and i'm guessing that's why you aren't finding any. It'd be okay on a white vehicle though, lol

I hear ya, Brother...
For me... it's a good looking ride, and it also makes real sense...
However, I totally get the sentiment, too, and you'll get no argument from me on average consumer perception!

Resales usually happen after ten years and at ten years my rav 4 was clear coat failure only on roof and hood. White rarely suffers clear coat failure, because they never get hot. Toyota is the original white roof on SUV company, old land cruisers and then fj cruisers. I would just like a couple to chose from out of 100. Anyhow, not worried about resale, this is her last vehicle unless it fails, and we will still have the rav 4 as a back up even if that happened.

I'd look for a completely white one, according to my relatives in the car game, white also has the best resale value

Mike the Subaru CVTs generally have a better track record than the Nissan ones do with proper fluid changes. Hey even the Nissan CVTs are decent with frequent fluid changes.

I also remember reading something about Toyota making a CVT with a traditional first gear used just for taking off from a stop. This was supposedly to take stress off the band and use the cvt part just for mild accelerating and cruising. Not sure if they actually produced them or not or what vehicles they were going to put them in but I remember being intrigued. BUT that also adds complexity....
