Working construction I like having a beater work car. The current one I have had for going on 12 years and owes me nothing. Been paid off for years and liability is dirt cheap on it. Run over a nail and a new tire is $50-60 compared to $200-300 plus for the truck. It's not going to win any beauty contests or races but it does its job for me. It also keeps miles off and less depreciation on the truck.

I'll always have an extra vehicle until I retire and not driving as much.

Just did my mileage today, well over 120 bucks for 23 gallons, exact price per mile hand written 48 cents per mile, the wife's rav 4 18 cents per mile. Meaning whenever we go anywhere, we are driving her car. A short ten mile trip is ten bucks there and back, in the rav 4 the same trip 3.50.

If your commute is over 20 miles, you will easily pay for the loan payment buy driving a better fuel mileage vehicle. Don't sell the truck, just get a lil hooptie that gets 30 mpg. It's like getting a free car?
Are U out there in expensive Californy land by any chance? LOL....... I heard a rumor U all have 2 retirement accounts there: 1 for you, 1 for vehicle fuel, lol.

But service cost is higher, and tires are costly and last 25% as long as a cheap car. I had lots of customers who learned the hard way it was cheaper to commute in a Civic, but no fun.
YEAH, 100% agree. Since I got a Honda Trike with full independent rear, pushing on turns, I am side scuffing more to turn since resistance due to the way MC runs and tracks on road, costs me a new tire on the front of the Trike at $245 a pop every 8,000 miles or less. Those Exceedra Bridgestone(s) now make a specific tire built for the front instead of reverse mounting a tire, but U always gotta order them. I like the Bridgestone a lot betta than the crapola "Duponts". SO yeah, the MC a lot more to maintain, insurance not cheap on bikes any more, but there is the "FUN" factor.

FTR: Due
to extreme heat I do OCIs on MC every 3K. Use full AT4 Mobil 1 and full synth filter. Gotta use certain oils due to clutches and such as tide knows

Yeah, the only retirement plan we have is our house, like most CAians housing costs make this your only asset worth a damn.

If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. An article from last year,,, In all, 37,313 business establishments moved to California from 1990 through 2019, while 54,630 moved out, for a net loss of 17,317 businesses.

To me this sounds nuts. And the trend is 400,000 people a year are moving away. Losing businesses and citizens, the last four years particularly bad and this year was the worst. But you have to have some admiration for people that can fight the good fight despite the cards stacked against you.

Fight as long as you can, then take a reverse mortgage and enjoy sipping mai tais.

Same here, its exactly why I have my Rogue. I drive 24mile/day just for work, closer to 30/day when I have to pick my kids up after work. Thats ~500/month just going to work and back, nevermind anywhere else I have to go. Rogue gets around 27mpg doing that kind of driving vs the truck getting 15. Plus the truck is safely sitting in my driveway not getting miles racked up on it. If a moron rear ends me in the Rogue the truck is safe in my driveway.

and another one is gone and another is is gone, another tick bites the dust

So even new hemi's and 2500's are still ticking, and the solution is the same, dealer says pizoff ram forum member opts for larger filter and 5w30 redline, problem solved.

JFC, Mike.

I can't talk @Wild one into making a modern V8 with me.

Even Ford & GM have done so, while Stellantis releases an ecoboost #1 that Ford already did 15 years ago.

How to go out of business 101.

only 12 miles one way? But the math shows even this small trip it is gonna pay for itself. It really is the smart play imo. But it is a no brainier when the mileage even gets longer. Plus those late gen ricer suv's, say what you want there is a reason why they are so popular.

Yeah,12 miles each way purely from my house to work. It's all the other places I need to go that adds up quick. When I was driving my truck to work I somehow put 14k on it in just over a year which is why I started looking for a commuter vehicle.

So far anyway, I haven't put much money into it besides fluid maintenance and 2 front struts which were about $100 each. Also being a SUV I can use it for some things I used to use the truck for like smaller dump runs. I've put about 12k on it since I got it in May last year.

Totally worth getting it so far.

I keep seeing people talk about a larger filters. So far Ive seen that XG2 is one that fits. Are there any others. Never liked how small the filter was on the 6.4.

see oil filter thread, royal purple 20-500 is one of hemimans choices. So see the dimensions or look up cross references for those filters.
