Was wondering what was happening with a name change on the Ultra synthetic Fram. Just out one on the wifes truck.

Thanks for sharing.

But, out of curiosity how do we know that the RP and Amsoil filters are not now a Fram synthetic endurance …. Im sure you looked but I had to ask if the scenario is possible reverse

Id be fine with either as they are both good

There are more "holes" on the baseplate of the Royal Purple 20-820 compared to the FRAM FE2 Synthetic Endurance oil filter. The AMSOIL eao11 oil filter is identical to the FRAM FE2 Synthetic Endurance. All three oil filters compare and are of the equivalent in quality ... I posted pics over on the oil filter thread of the three for comparison.

Here's a pic of the RP and FRAM, I don't have a pic of the AMSOIL oil filter anymore ...

* All three of those oil filters have the "louvered holes" in the center tube *

Nice post, so it looks like they fram cloned the amsoil instead of the more beneficial RP 20-820, too bad. Ya know, someone had to make that decision, didnt they look? Clearly, they don't care, too bad, so still only one choice? What are the holes like on the regular fram ultra anyone know? I suppose that has been addressed, my memory on par with hemimanns.

I still have the FRAM XG2 and took another pic of that filter along side the RP and FRAM FE2 ... the "holes" in the center tube on the FRAM XG2 are round.

thanks brother for doing all of that, super helpful. Sad that option is the lower holes, hopefully that will change, but good ol xg2 ultra still a good option whether it is 1 or 2 as far as rankings.

expand the photo, I am talking about center tube.

Ok, I see the Purolator is slotted tube, I thought that was the reason.

See @Wild one post above stating Fram Ultra XG has incomplete punched louvers (XG2 part number). Wowsa - I'd better look at those I have remaining.

Is there a Canadian Fram and a US Fram Oil Filter?

wtf is one XG2 incomplete punched louvers and another punched holes? Different manufacture dates? Different factory?

I remember Fram claiming all Ultra XG Oil Filters were made in USA. That was a few years back. Since then, they've changed the filter media design, and added a couple of new filter models. These guys keep messing with us.

The changes are usually for the worse - the corporate bigwig demands cost reductions, then claim performance is equal (new & improved!) when the opposite is true. Ask me how I know.

The XG2 i had, looked more like the Fram FE2 in JHowards pics.It was louvered internally, and didn't resemble the XG2 in his pics.I never checked it's date, and i should have in hindsight.

Yeah, pretty sure they're gaming us by pushing toward higher price new model that used to be the XG, cost reduced the Ultra and called it just as good as before.

In fact, the Fram guy emailed me that they made it better filtering. Hence the 'new & improved' marketing deception I talked about.
