If we are talking about the same thing it is the pinion seal.

Yes. A bad pinion seal will allow dirt and other **** in your diff and cause **** to break.

are you kidding me? aren't you talking about the rear of the transmission tailshaft? I believe that seal is technically speaking, a rear seal.
