Howdy, new Tungsten owner with Hurricane. I live in an area that has no tier one gasoline available. Is the Techron additive a good solution for improving gas quality and improved engine life. If it is, what is the recommendation for frequency of use? Thanks!

Be careful on additives. RAM specifically says no way Jose. Read yer manual. Use at your own risk/discression. Attached from your manual, which if you do not have, you should download:

If you are still located in Rockport, Texas, the web site toptiergas.com is showing seven options in your area and within 3 miles of zip code 78381 for TopTier gas, and a whole lot more within 10 miles. I had to guess at your zip code but check this site out to find stations closest to you.

Techron is the same cleaning product found in Chevron top tier gas, just more concentrated. There should be no issues adding it to your gas periodically if you can't fill with top tier gas. It's one of the only fuel additives you can find at your local parts store that does exactly what it claims. It's also rebranded for some oem's. For example, Hyundai fuel injector cleaner is Techron in Hyundai clothes. Also recommended by BMW, Ford, GM and Mercedes back when I worked on them in the late 90's. I've used it for years.

Thanks Jas34, that is exactly what I found in my readings, I will add next fill up, and every six months thereafter.

I use Techron in my 3.6 every so often. This is from Google AI:
"Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner is a, highly-rated, polyetheramine (PEA)-based additive designed to clean fuel injectors, intake valves, and combustion chambers in one tank. It restores lost power, improves fuel economy, and reduces emissions, generally recommended for use every 3,000 miles or at oil changes. It is safe for all gasoline engines, including turbocharged and direct-injection, and is highly recommended by mechanics. "

Be sure you get the Techron Complete Fuel System cleaner if you go that route, or add a bottle of B12 Chemtool to a tank. You can get 3 bottles of B12 for price of Techron.

PEA is what they use in top tier fuel, it is what is in some fuel cleaners. I doubt they will ever know but using a di turbo w/o a cleaning additive can kill the engine as it ages. View this entire thread proof it cleans piston tops and rings with injectors 5 boroscopes tested against techron, same active ingredient as techron. It is the only one with proof in every test. When a DI piston gets dirty it can ignite the fuel pre spark = lspi. I'd use si-1 if I had a turbo for sure, but use it in everything that has pistons and injectors. Read the thread, 5 different sources all the same conclusion with proof, that's all I got on the matter. Why it is the best higher % PEA and carrier oil, that's it that simple. Don't use it as maintenance dose that is useless, either use one or two full bottles in a tank every 3-5k miles, or leave it alone and do something different. In theory 6 bottles of techron might do similar, but that is just stupid.

This issue I have with this site is it lists BP and BP is no longer top tier. So make sure you double check the stations it lists.

The BP gas stations in my area have new stickers on the pumps stating they are rated a Top Tier fuel.

LOL...

"BP is generally not listed as a Top Tier certified gasoline brand, as it was removed from the official Top Tier list in late 2021. Although BP states their fuels with Invigorate® meet or exceed Top Tier standards, they are no longer part of the official licensing program, often speculated to be a cost-saving move."

AND...

"
Yes, BP and Amoco gasoline in the US are Top Tier certified in 2026. All grades of BP and Amoco gasolines with Invigorate® additives meet or exceed the Top Tier detergent requirements for engine cleanliness. [1, 2]

Top Tier Status: As of early 2026, BP/Amoco products are included in the Top Tier licensed brands list."

If I am wrong, I apologize, I was to the understanding that they dropped out of the TT program.

They "were". Post #15 explains it.
They are back in for 2026.

TT is merely a resource, not Gospel. Trust but verify. ;)
