I've only had my truck for a little over a week. 2005 quad cab 4.7L. I was curious about the temp gauge reading. It fluctuates a little. Maybe a needle mark above center line at slow speed and about three needle marks below center line at highway speeds. The temp outside has been between 90°-100°. Sound fairly normal? Sorry if the topic has been posted. I'm new to tapatalk. This is over the course of 60 miles with a lot of stop and go.

Seems to run a lil hot. Mine has never run above the center mark.

I couldn't really tell. It didn't stay above the center mark for any extended period of time. Mainly when sitting at a red light. The AC was on and it was a little over 100° out when I noticed it.

When I say above center I just mean like a needle width. It was little enough that I even thought it could have been the angle I was looking at it. I was curious how much they fluctuate under normal circumstances. It wasn't flopping around wildly or anything like that.

Sounds a little like the clutch fan is slipping more than it should.

I drove it all day today and it stayed dead center or under. Same temp outside. I put some Water Wetter in it after the fact and changed the PCV valve just because I was under the hood.

If you have the clutch fan and it's working fine then it shouldn't fluctuate very much at all.

It was probably me being paranoid. I drove all day today with no issues. One thing to note is that the dealership changed all the fluids before I bought the truck. I kinda wondered if there could have been an air bubble in the cooling system. I'm being super vigilant with the maintenance on this truck because I want it to last for a long time.

Update. I've driven the truck very little because it's not my primary driver. Over the weekend it started getting warm again. Never got hot just warm. I took it to the dealer I bought it from and told them I thought the fan clutch was failing. Long story short, they're replacing the fan clutch and radiator as it had some blockage. They're going to warranty it.

Cool beans. My fan clutch is on its way out, but in the other way- sounds like a Cessna goin down the runway after its been sitting for a while, then unlocks if you get it above 4k.

Temp will go up and down, when I pull up engine temp on my AI, when stopped at a light or in rush hour the temp goes up, when moving it drops back down to normal. Done that on every vehicle I have owned.

When I killed the truck at the dealership with the hood open the fan kept spinning for a while. When the service writer started it back up immediately, the fan barely moved. I'm just glad they looked at the radiator too and they are replacing that as well. It was much easier to see with someone else starting up the truck so I could peek under the hood.
