Well my 2015 more or less got lemon'd out. The dealership traded me out of mine paying me 3,000 more than i paid for it and then ram kicked in another 5,000 for me to purchase another 2015 2500. except this time i went crew cab long box cummins.

my 6.4 hemi had a nasty tick to it when started cold. it quieted down once warmed up but was still present. It had begun at roughly 7,000 miles to have a mild pulse sensation when cruising on the interstate. My thought is that the push rod in a cylinder was hanging up on occasion and dragging the walls.

regardless, very grateful ram traded me out and even more happy to get rid of the gas hog. towing my 12,000 fifth wheel i was getting 6mpg. empty highway speeds were around 14. Now towing my camper I am 12mpg and empty highway is north of 20 and climbing... big mistake on my part to go with the hemi to begin with... :(

Well, that sucks a fart... looks like the 2015's might be infected too. Are there any other reports of the clatter on the 2015's?

Your noise very well could be normal, as I've said before compared to a 5.7 in a 1500, the 6.4 is a noticeable louder engine. You can always ask to compare your truck to one off the dealers lot.

I have the ticking that the hemi normally has when warmed... my truck did not make this noise when brand new and it seems to be getting louder.... how ram thought there was nothing wrong with an engine that sounds like this is beyond me.... wish I would have went diesel again...

Wow. I always thought the 5.7 was louder/better sounding , at least from the exhaust. I cant even hear my 6.4. When i had my 5.7 , I felt like it didnt even need an aftermark. exhaust cause I could hear it. Or are you referring to something else?

Im referring to engine noise, not exhaust noise.

I couldnt really hear either of them. One of my friends actually got in my 6.4 and said "you need an exhaust, this thing is quiet". I like it like that though. A little more deep throaty growl would be nice, but no hurry for any mods for me

Well if you want a quiet engine, the diesel isn't the way to go. Both the Eco diesel and cummins are noisier engines.

The thing is, modern day engines are just louder then they used to be. Engines used to have a carb and be made entirely of cast iron. Cast iron is good at holding in noise. Now a days engines may only have a cast iron block, some are all aluminum. Aluminum seems to resonate noise more then cast iron. You also have noise from fuel injectors, some are quite loud. Even louder if it's direct injected. There's a reason engines have covers now, it cuts down on noise.

That's just the thing. Some people can be very particular when it comes to how an engine sounds, others not so much. I've had a few customer complaints about the 6.4 being noisy. Everyone one I've dealt with has been compared to another truck on the lot, and they all sound the same.

Glad to hear you're happy with yours.

Yeah , not hearing anything makes me happy . Then i know for sure I dont have the clattering truck :) (mine was built after the bulletin dates anyway). I would love the ability of the cummins, but dont like the sound of diesels. Maybe it would grow on me if i had one , IDK. But, I am happy with the 6.4. It gets the job done for me

So you got your truck bought back and my dealer just says it's normal to sound like crap! My truck you can here it driving down the street echoing off trees and parked cars it's loud! It's loud till almost full temp.

My dealership deemed it "normal" a number of times, said all of the 15's on the lot did it. I then had a friend drive in with a 14 and it was as quiet as could be.

I finally ******* and moaned enough the manager of the store got involved and told him straight up I was aware it was "normal" but it was far from acceptable! Once it began to affect the performance of the engine with the pulsing at highway speed I was done. I assured him I would continue to pester him and his employees as well as Ram until something was done about it. I told them to treat me right and I'd return the gesture.

I never disagreed the mechanics or the service managers as the issue did appear to be normal. They didn't want to tear apart my new engine to diagnose it nor did i want them to. Ram finally offered me 4 years of oil changes to help keep it in touch with the dealership which i never used any of...

I do feel there is a genuine problem with that engine as the noise is far from normal! There was many times that upon a cold start and idling out of the driveway it would actually squeal.... once the throttle was pressed in any amount the sound would silence. They definitely have demons with that engine.

I do however feel that it is a decent alternative to the Diesel engine. The 6.4 had loads of power but was a thirsty monster all at the same time. In my experience and my opinion would be 8,000 pounds or less and you would be more than happy. A 5th wheel in general is going to cause too much wind resistance and i'm not sure it is worth it there... We had an 8,000 37' bumper pull camper prior to our 5th wheel and the truck did great with it, still getting 10 mpg. That to me is acceptable.

Ok. I can't find a sound recorder app on my phone. I might have to download one. I'll post what mine sounds like. I'm pretty sure mine is not affected and you guys can compare. I just have to figure out how to do it. Is there a size limit. I see on the attachments there is for pics.

You should be fine using the video recording app/camera app. Upload to YouTube (easiest for mobile users to view) copy and paste link

I know a diesel makes noise.... it's suppose to rattle and knock.. a gas motor is not suppose to sound like this.... avolnek your sounds like mine. You tap the gas it goes silent you put it in gear and it starts squeaking and squealing while you drive till about 3/4 temp.... it's a joke, I've tried recording it but it's hard to hear it on the phone... I'll try again in the morning.

Mine makes has a noise on cold start ups (doesn't matter how warm or cold it is). It mostly goes away once the engine warms up but turns into what sounds like a compression leak. The more throttle you give it the louder it is. Now it's not loud but very noticeable
