Anyone have any trouble with their thermostat yet. I have 110,000 on my 2014 RAM with 6.4L. And I'm having issues with my thermostat. Also with my "Electronic Throttle System". Anyone have any suggestions.

I was getting an error code (sorry can't remember the #) that was something about failure to reach temperature in normal amount of time. Took it in with warranty and it was the thermostat. It was about a year ago so truck would have been 3-ish years old with around 60K. It started slowly in that the first time I got the CEL I reset the code and it didn't return for a few months then came back and kept coming back right away after resetting.

Hey Donelam304,

Have you reached out to a Ram dealership to have this diagnosed? If you end up going this route and need assistance working with your dealer, just let us know.

Donelam, have you got any specific codes? Not sure if you're aware, but these 6.4's have ECM controlled thermostats. Yes you read that correctly. Lots of vehicles have them now. It *may* not be the thermostat directly at fault.

I did not know that. I have an appointment tomorrow to get it checked by the dealership. I called them about it and a couple of other issues.

Thank you. I'll let you know what they say tomorrow. I have an appointment tomorrow to get this checked as well as a ticking I am sure is a lifter. Along with the Electronic Throttle Control System. All this started about the same time.

10-4. Please follow up with what is found. If you're on your own for repairs, please let me know, as I can walk you through/provide wiring diagrams to diagnose. Good luck with your situation!

I just took it to the dealership, and they told me they couldn't get any codes on it except for a thermostat code. I take it to a friend and he pulls up a ton of codes. WTH. Lol. b0715872873b8126c7c674918220ef3b.jpg

Oh and the ticking sound is in the bottom end, maybe the wrist pin. Ugh. With 104,000 ram won't cover it. It was doing it before the warrenty went out. Ugh.

Well, the long and short is as follows:

Truck has detected an EVAP leak somewhere, (P0456) and is very hard to diagnose over the internet. It may need to have a smoke machine used to see where the leak/rationality in the information is having a breakdown.

The cooling system: P0128 basically means the engine could not achieve proper coolant temp during a prescribed period of time, starting from a certain ambient coolant/ambient air temp.

P2181 set conditions are similar in nature to P0128, but factors in the coolant temp sensor. Remember, the engine only knows the coolant temp, from this sensor. So It requires it to be functioning correctly, to test the integrity of the thermostat. False info from this sensor, and the thermostat can be suspected failing mistakenly.

Best is to have someone competent monitor the data with a scan tool, and make some decisions on the info you can attain. Also, I notice in another thread you posted of a ETC (electronic throttle control) malfunction, but there are no codes pertaining to this in the picture you posted of the codes the scanner retrieved. You should have it scanned (in an ideal world) when you get that message that comes up.

Sorry, I cant help you on the wrist pin noise, and all of this may be for nothing if you require an engine replacement/major repair. For your sake, I hope its not a major issue seeing as though you're out of warranty.

I would definitely search for a competent independent repair shop that can diagnose properly. Search for "That" shop in your area that other shops send work to when they've slammed all the parts on it and it still didn't fix the problem. Trust me, you'll be way further ahead paying the right guy to look at your pickup.

There is a shot of the ETS light.. It comes and goes. The last few days have been a nightmare with this thing. It has literally been a great truck up to this point. And as soon as the warranty runs out, it give me major issues. Lol. 373caf4cdb94f0fc2f92c14e17184bc5.jpg

Damn, this really sucks Donelam. Hopefully being only 4K over RAM will be a little flexible. I really hope your truck gets taken care of by RAM if there is a major issue. I don't want to derail your thread, but did your 2014 truck ever intermittently belch blue smoke on startup? Only 47,600 miles on my 2014 and it'll still belch a cloud of blue smoke randomly on start up. Sometimes won't happen for a while then it'll do it 3-4 times a week. Service dept. hasn't been able to replicate it yet.

I as well apologize for potential derailing.

wyo2track,

My truck gives off blue smoke during start up when the temperature gets cool enough. I also have rattling from the bottom end, which I believe is from the wrist pin issue. Mine started off as a super short clatter and over the last few years has started to rattle longer after start up. Maybe up to 30-45 seconds. Next time it is cold I'll try to grab a video and share with you wonderful folk. Living in Florida makes that far and few between.

Donelam304,

Have you had a lot of moisture or rain recently? Reason I ask, is I had the same issue with my ETS light when we had about a week and half straight of rain. The issue cleared itself up afterward it stopped raining. I hope you the best.

Had some rain, but even when it's dry it just randomly comes in. Crystler is being a pain. Won't give me a straight answer to save their life.

I had a small evap leak that turned into a large evap leak. I was finally able to chase it down to a shelled evap pump in the charcoal canister. Several hours diagnosing, 5 minute fix.....

I had the same issue last year out of my ‘14 6.4 and it was the thermostat! Took it to the dealer 3 times for it. Finally insisted they replace the thermostat and it fixed it
