If both the original thermostat and cap are working and holding pressure, don't swap them out for new ones,as your originals will probably work better and outlast a new thermostat and capIn the process of doing the cooling system service and due to our current supply chain "quality" wondered what experiences others have had with thermostats and radiator caps
TIA
First upgrade in the Mopar power parts bin is a 180 t-stat,they run the 203 for emissions, not power. They also go into closed loop mode at roughly 160F,not 203 as you're thinkingvalid point, however the cap has failed the pressure test and the temp gauge runs just a bit below center which makes me suspect it may be running cooler than it should or someone swapped the stat.
I have seen a lot of postings in which people are putting lower temp stats in and I'm not sure why as the cars are "Tweaked" to run best at the OEM temps which I believe is 203 degrees
Any input appreciated

yesDidn't the Hemi come with 195* thermostats up until 2006 or so? Then it was changed to help meet emission standards.
I do know if you want a 192 t-stat at your local Napa/Autozone etc.you have to tell them it's for an 04 or 05 Hemi,if you tell them it's for say a 2013,they'll tell you they don't have one, lolDidn't the Hemi come with 195* thermostats up until 2006 or so? Just a bit below center is 100% normal that is where it should be.valid point, however the cap has failed the pressure test and the temp gauge runs just a bit below center which makes me suspect it may be running cooler than it should or someone swapped the stat.

You should be able to see the actual temp on the Evicc. When you're monitoring temps /oil pressures etc.,it's usually better to use the Evicc display then the dummy temp or oil pressure gaugesvalid point, however the cap has failed the pressure test and the temp gauge runs just a bit below center which makes me suspect it may be running cooler than it should or someone swapped the stat.

When you say the mopar power parts bin is that a site/publication ??? I ask as I've heard both hot and colder are good depending on the circumstances/ application. this late model stuff is new to meFirst upgrade in the Mopar powr parts bine is a 180 t-stat,they run the 203 for emissions, not power. They also go into closed loop mode at roughly 160F,not 203 as you're thinking
Back when they had power kits for the 5.7's,if your pockets were deep enough you could go all the way up to ported heads. As long as the kits were installed by a dealer, you're factory warrenty stayed in place. They've dropped the 5.7 kits, but they still offer kits to take your stock Hellcat Red Eye up to 885 horses and the first upgrade is a 180 t-stat.Pretty well every tuner that's any good is gonna have you swap to a 180 thermostat. When you say the mopar power parts bin is that a site/publication ??? Mopar ’15 Performance Kit for 2015 Dodge Charger R/T. (Mopar). You can still reap the benefits of a 180 or 192 t-stat on an untuned truck as long as you leave the mechanical fan in place. Give it a whirl, you're probably due for new antifreeze anyways. If it doesn't pan out,all you're out is the cost of the thermostat,as you can always reinstall your factory T-stat.The above post was referring to just changing to a 180 t/Sat not the scat 1,2 3 packages![]()

If you're buying a 192 at your local Nappa / AutoZone / Bumper to Bumper etc. tell them it's for a 2004 Hemi truck,if you tell them it's for your 14 they'll tell you they don't have oneMy initial drive with the 203 thermostat has me thinking i maybe should have gone with a 195 or so. BUT I haven't had a chance to really see how it will do in 90-100 degree temps with the A/C on etc.
Any comments/ experiences ?![]()
