I'm looking to get a truck for my son. He wants a ram. What do I need to worry about with this Gen Ram? Are there issues with the trans, motor, anything that I may have to deal with if I get him a used one, or with high mileage?

With the 1500s transmissions are pretty much solid, not many problems with them.
The Hemi still suffers issues with failed lifters/cams and exhaust manifolds, probably the biggest complaints.
The 3.6 not sure if the oil filter/cooler assembly has been updated but some like to spring leaks.
Longevity of the eTorque system is yet to be determined but haven't seen many failures being brought up on the forum.
Finding a vehicle that was decently maintained should be a good used vehicle.

Used vehicle, NOT too many miles, and a solid record of proper and timely maintenance a MUST, IMHO... Since U R in Arizona, as long as a SW vehicle, hopefully no weather/rust related issues.

Other common issues not already noted, are a leaking rear window (frame gets broken), and/or a leaking CHMSL. I would inspect the rear headliner to look for water stains.

Depending on your sensitivity to this, door alignment is pretty poor on the trucks I've seen including mine.

Ram air boxes can warp and twist.

Some guys have had battery's drained dead, seems to be related to E/Torque models.

Clunking in the rear driveshaft, either when holding the brake and starting it up, and/or shifting in and out of drive/park or a downshift through a rolling stop sign etc.

An empty pocketbook due to constant abuse of the skinny pedal.

Aren't you the founder of the forum? Figure you would know the most about rams or am I missing something?

Yes I am but haven't had time to read through the forum on how well the 5th gens have been or how they are holding up.

Thanks everyone for your input so far!

I just traded my 2014 1500 Laramie Crew Cab with 101K... Best truck I've ever had. 1/4th of those miles was pulling a trailer. Motor and transmission are rock solid. Only repairs were front ball joints and a water pump last summer.
