I know it has probably been posted many times before, But what is everyone's thought's on dropping a full CAI system on a 18 sport. Worth the 300$ or no?

So if you KNOW it's been covered a bunch of times.. why not research! :)

CLIFF NOTES: Waste of money unless you are tuned.

If you plan on doing a tune & exhaust then yes an intake is worth it

^ What he said. ^

The intake needs to be part of an entire mod package. By itself you will gain a little but adding freer flowing exhaust and a tune, either canned or custom, will gain a lot.

According to Matt at Moe's performance, the vararam intake system has shown to produce a 16 to 18 rear wheel horsepower increase without a tune in the upper RPM range....

Are there dyno graphs of that somewhere? I'm skeptical of all claims until I see some kind of proof.

I see this a different way. on my 06 diesel the factory air box leaked from day one. i installed a few cai and ended up with an S&B these are just awesome. did i get more power probleby not. but i had a better filter setup. and thats why im putting one on my 18 hemi. every one keeps saying its a waist of money. if power is all you want maybe it is. but the Pedal Commander does not add power. it just changes the feel. so.....i would feel better knowing i have clean air going in my engine than trust the factory air box.

That's a fairly Old Post by Matt but I think he stated something about not trusting the dyno runs so much as quarter-mile performance increases and calculating the gains from that....

With the dyno runs you're not going to get the full ram-air effect that Vararam relies on... but I think it would be hard to notice <20hp in a 5000lb truck from a quarter mile run. Unless you made 2 or 3 passes with the stock airbox, swapped to the vararam in the parking lot, then made 2 or 3 more passes on the same day. A lot of variables with track times.

IMHO the dyno is an expensive tuning tool and your dyno results are something you can brag about/or not. Once you establish a baseline, your time slips can be used to determine if a bolt on, or bolt on's, have changed the performance of your truck. This includes any mod or combination of mods. The Vararam is more effective on the highway and/or at WOT. I agree that there are many variables when racing ie; traction, weather, and most importantly the driver. Considering the experience and the results that Matt has over the years, I think that the information he gives is accurate and most importantly, track proven.
